    YHD is looking for a community leader, someone with a definite interest in assisting us accomplish our mission. As such, we're seeking individuals who are connected with their local community and willing to network. This is a MUST.

    Board Vice Chair

    Your Hearing Dog Inc's mission is to supply specially trained service dogs to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, as well as veterans with the same challenges.     JOB DESCRIPTION

    In addition to the member-at-large responsibilities (you’ll receive a copy of those as well) and in accordance with the organizational bylaws, the Vice Chair shall serve in the Chair's place in the event the Chair is unable to serve or perform duties delegated to the Chair. The Vice Chair may have such additional duties as delegated to him or her by the Board of Directors or the Chair:

    • In absence of Chair, coordinates facilitation of board meetings, ensures agendas and minutes are distributed, and implements the strategic plan.
    • Reports to the Board Chair.
    • Works closely with the Board Chair, board members, and organizational staff.
    • Helps the Board Chair to develop and implement office transition plans.
    • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the board.
    • Serves as Governance Committee Chair as appropriate.
    • Actively recruits new board members and helps to retain current board members.
    • Provides leadership and direction to the Board of Directors.
    • Ensures transparent communication between all Board members.
    • Helps guide and mediate Board actions with respect to organizational priorities and governance concerns.
    • Represents Your Hearing Dog as an ambassador for the mission at events and other activities.
    • Plays a leading role in revenue generation activities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The vice chair of a nonprofit board serves a critical role as the right hand to the chair. Here are the qualifications YHD is looking for:

    Experience and Skills

    • Nonprofit experience: A strong understanding of the nonprofit sector and familiarity with the specific mission and goals of Your Hearing Dog is important.
    • Leadership: The ability to lead discussions, motivate others, and build consensus among board members.
    • Strategic thinking: A grasp of big-picture issues and the ability to contribute to Your Hearing Dog's long-term planning.
    • Time commitment: The vice chair role requires attending meetings, participating in committee work, and potentially taking on additional tasks.

    Additional Considerations

    • Board experience: Having served as a board member for a period demonstrates understanding of board dynamics and the organization's operations.
    • Financial acumen: Being comfortable with financial statements and budgets is helpful, especially for organizations with complex finances.
    • Fundraising skills: The ability to cultivate relationships with donors and assist with fundraising efforts is a MUST.
    • Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills: The ability to collaborate effectively with the chair, ED, and other board members is essential.

    This is a virtual opportunity but if you're local to the Colorado Springs / Pueblo, CO area it's a definite plus.

    As a board member you should be willing to assist us in raising awareness for our mission and help us connect with your network. This is important because we need to "build an army of the engaged" and connecting with your existing family and friends is a must.

    Board member positions at YHD are a two year commitment with the possibility of a second term.
