Ombudsmen are trained advocates who empower and advocate resident seniors living in nursing homes, board and care homes, and assisted living facilities living throughout the Orange County, California.
Ombudsmen investigate complaints of elder and dependent abuse made by, or on behalf of, individual residents of long-term-care (LTC) facilities. They also visit all licensed LTC facilities, providing a regular presence to ensure that the rights of residents are protected.
The Ombudsman Program at the Council on Aging is a Federal and State mandated program. Ombudsman participate in 36 hours of training at our office in Irvine and at least 10 hours mentoring in the field. Background check and TB test required. Once certified, Ombudsmen begin fieldwork at facilities within the volunteers own Community. We ask for a year commitment, 20 hours per month.
