    About Us

    DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to protecting children and other vulnerable people online. Our mission is to reduce online risks through education and technology to create safer digital spaces.

    Role Description

    We are seeking passionate Political Science Students or Lobbyists with a deep understanding of Canada’s political landscape to join our Advocacy Team. In this role, you’ll help lead efforts to change laws, table petitions, and establish strong political contacts that will further DEFEND’s mission to protect children online.

    Responsibilities

    • Work within the Advocacy Team to drive legislative initiatives focused on child protection online.
    • Table petitions and present lobbying materials to federal and provincial governments across Canada.
    • Network and build valuable relationships with political contacts to support our goals.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of advocacy strategies, ensuring alignment with DEFEND’s mission.

    Qualifications

    • Strong understanding of the Canadian political system and legislative processes.
    • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in spoken and written English.
    • Proactive and organized, with an ability to manage multiple lobbying tasks effectively.
    • Previous experience in advocacy, political science studies, or lobbying is a plus but not required.
    • Motivated to make a meaningful difference in online child safety.
