The South Metro Medical Equipment Loan Closet (SMMELC) is a non-profit organization which collects and loans out durable medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, scooters, etc., to any person age 18 and over who needs to borrow this type of equipment. We loan on a short-term basis (up to 3 months) with no questions asked and request only a donation. There are no paid positions. We serve a wide community of those with different needs and we prevent durable medical equipment from ending up in landfills. We practice all Covid recommendations for assisting clients & cleaning equipment.
Volunteers answer calls on their cell phones, schedule appointments for pick-ups, returns and donations using our database on their cell phones, and meet clients and donors at our storage location in Drfy Creek Business Park to loan out/accept the equipment.
We expect each volunteer to work 3-4 times a month for a few hours each time and attend a quarterly Board meeting at least once. Volunteers sign up to work a "shift" on our database when it fits their schedule. Training is provided. We hope that each volunteer will embrace our mission and also help us with any long-term goals.
