    Description

Media Relations Internship (Unpaid, US Only)

    Overview

Cards2Warriors is a 503(c) nonprofit that bridges the isolation gap by sending cards of support and encouragement to individuals battling long-term illnesses and rare diseases. Join our mission to send 100,000 cards!

We are seeking highly motivated and empathetic Media Relations Intern and Fundraising Intern to support the development and execution of our 100,000 card mission.

We welcome and encourage chronically ill individuals and caregivers to apply! We are an organization run primarily by illness warriors and caregivers, and we want to work with you! We are fully remote and committed to flexibility.

Our hours are flexible based on your capacity, but we ask for at least a six-month commitment. We’ll happily sign off on service hours, provide letters of recommendation, or accommodate academic requirements as needed. These are unpaid internships.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Contribute towards our goals of growing our card recipient database and securing funding so we can send 100,000 cards

    • Media Contact Database Creation

      • Research and compile a comprehensive database of relevant media outlets and individual journalists/editors. Categorize contacts across segments including blogs, print publications, lifestyle magazines, medical journals/magazines, and niche platforms like Substack and Medium.

      • Maintain and update records, noting editorial preferences, submission guidelines, and recent publications.

    • Story Pitch Development

      • Collaborate with the team to identify compelling story angles that align with our brand voice and goals.

      • Draft, refine, and tailor media pitches based on outlet and journalist interests. Track pitch responses and follow-up communications.

    • Content Collaboration

      • Support blog outreach by identifying cross-promotion or guest post opportunities.

      • Monitor Substack and Medium writers for partnership or coverage potential.

      • Propose content collaborations and identify influencers in the medical and lifestyle spheres.

    • Reporting & Insights

      • Track earned media placements and compile monthly coverage reports.

      • Provide insights on successful media types and pitch strategies.

    Qualifications

    • Background or interest in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. Current or recent college study is preferred.

    • Strong research and writing skills.

    • Familiarity with social media

    • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.

    • Lived experience as an illness and/or caregiver warrior is preferred.

    • You will need to provide your own computer and Wi-Fi.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Hands-on experience crafting and pitching stories to media outlets.

    • A strong understanding of media relations in both traditional and digital landscapes.
