    About DefCom

The DefCom organizational team operates with a clear, shared structure that enables collaboration, ownership, and focus. This entire structure is designed to ensure that each volunteer can contribute in a manageable way. Together, we strive to make politics engaging and accessible for all our members, ensuring their ideas and visions reach Volt’s elected officials.

DefCom is led by two Co-Chairs and supported by subteams focusing on Community Building & Expansion, Substantive Support, and Advising Elected Officials. Community Building Co-Leads are central to engaging and activating members across Europe, and they play a vital role in making DefCom an inspiring and inclusive space.

    Role Overview

We are looking for a female or gender-diverse Community Building Co-Lead to energize and connect our growing European network. In this role, you will focus on strengthening internal cohesion, ensuring meaningful dialogue, and fostering a strong sense of belonging.

You’ll work closely with the current Co-Lead, Arend Jan Kollen, to coordinate and moderate our monthly community calls (with 20–30 participants), while also supporting wider engagement through in-person meet-ups, interactive formats, and community initiatives.

As Co-Lead, you will also be part of the DefCom board, contributing to the strategic direction and overall growth of the community.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Moderate & Facilitate: Plan and host monthly online community meetings that are welcoming, structured, and engaging.
    • Community Engagement: Help members feel heard, valued, and involved in shaping DefCom’s activities.
    • Event Coordination: Co-organise interactive events and sessions that bring the community together around our core topic of European defence and security.
    • Innovation & Structure: Bring new energy and ideas to how we build community, both online and offline.
    • Strategic Input: Collaborate with the Steering Committee on broader decisions regarding DefCom’s growth and member experience.

    What We Are Looking For

    • Community-Oriented: You enjoy connecting people and creating a sense of inclusion and shared purpose.
    • Proactive: You take initiative and are comfortable taking the lead in moderating or organising.
    • Collaborative: You enjoy working with others and value diverse perspectives.
    • Curious about Defence & Security: You are interested in learning and engaging with the topic at a European level.
    • Diverse Leadership: This role is open to female or gender-diverse candidates to strengthen representation and balance within the team.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Impact: Shape how hundreds of members connect and with Volt’s broader defense and security agenda.
    • Leadership Experience: Gain confidence and experience in facilitation, engagement, and community management.
    • Inspiration: Be part of a motivated European team that supports each other and shares a vision.
    • Growth: Build valuable skills and networks in a collaborative, voluntary setting.
