Women of Color Writers Volunteer Assistant Position

Women of Color Writers Celebrates its 26th year of providing a safe and nurturing space for experienced and emerging writers of color to hone their skills, start or finish their manuscripts, and support each other.

We are seeking a committed volunteer to assist in the Women of Color Program activities in an administrative capacity. This position is open to women who have a deep interest in writing, a concern for marginalized women writers, and can contribute 8 hours a week.

In exchange for this service the Assistant will be able to attend all WOC writers’ workshops, special retreats, guest poetry and creative writers’ workshops and submit their writing to our upcoming online publication.

This is a great opportunity to write creatively with small groups of women writers, share feedback, and work towards personal goals or publishing.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

• Location: Imani House Site – 76A Fifth Avenue, Parkslope, Brooklyn
• Help with outreach and organization for upcoming in person and online events, such as WOC quarterly workshops, Free Guest Poetry Series, Readings, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Be reliable, punctual, friendly, and personable
• Have good writing skills and enjoy writing – beginners are welcome
• Should be interested in the art of writing
• Be well organized, creative, and detail oriented
• Be capable of meeting deadlines and following through on tasks
