    Description

Families Committed to Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities

Are you interested in providing your family with an enriching environment? Would your family like to gain hands-on experience in a life sharing community and build skills in biodynamic farming, gardening, homemaking, baking, food processing and preserving, weaving, woodworking, conflict resolution, and community building?

As members of a life-sharing community, you will offer your family unique opportunities to live, learn and grow alongside people with and without developmental disabilities, interests, and backgrounds from a variety of countries around the world. Everyone lives and works together in our homes, shared community spaces and on the land to sustain our village and lifestyle. We encourage families to come for a visit to get familiar with our community. Contact Annie at outreach@camphillmn.org to begin your journey of creating core memories with your loved ones or start your application today at www.camphillmn.org .

    Requirements

    • Be excited to live and work with people with developmental disabilities

    • Having flexibility, a sense of humor, and a calm response to the unexpected;

    • CPR and First Aid certification required (training provided)

    • Star Services training required (training provided)

    • Must be able to pass a background check.

    Expectations in the Home:

Volunteers assist in the home by helping with daily activities that can include physical and emotional care for members who have developmental disabilities, cleaning common spaces, doing laundry, making meals, providing coverage of the house when needed, and being an active part of house culture and responsibility.

Additional required tasks include the ability to coordinate with guardians and family members, along with the organizational skills necessary to manage household finances, medical appointments for multiple individuals, and state-mandated visits with case managers.

Strong leadership skills are needed to provide support, training, and guidance to other volunteer staff living within the home.

    Work Activities:

Outside of home life, community members work side by side in various areas during morning and afternoon shifts. Examples of work activities include cooking, baking, gardening, farming, pottery, woodworking, and weaving. Volunteers have one weekday (Monday through Friday) designated as their day off.

    Community:

Volunteers support various Camphill festivals and gatherings that are celebrated through the lens of Anthroposophic philosophy. All community members are encouraged to attend events both within our community and surrounding areas and to support members of the community to be active participants. We are proud to be home to individuals from all over the world and welcome you to share your culture, ideas, and suggestions as a way to bring forth your unique gifts and talents!

    School:

As part of a life-sharing experience, we offer our children a different approach to education where the parents are fully involved, with a deep connection to nature, while encouraging the natural development of each child’s distinctive gifts and interests. To achieve this, we have created a Waldorf inspired Village School, led by parents within the community.

If you are interested in a more traditional approach to schooling, we are centrally located between three rural public school systems allowing you freedom to find the best fit for your child.
