    Recurrence:
    One time only

    Description

Victory Afghanistan is seeking passionate, creative volunteers to host weekly online book discussions with a group of bright, fluent English-speaking girls in Afghanistan. This is part of our expanding Book Club program, which already supports 10 mentorship-level clubs, and we’re now launching a brand-new series just for our Advanced Level English students.

    The Opportunity

    • Run a 1-hour weekly reading group for up to 12-15 Afghan girls, fluent in English
    • Semester runs from mid-July to mid-November 2025 (20 weeks total)
    • All sessions are hosted on Google Meet; you’ll also join a WhatsApp group with your students for easy communication
    • Each host is supported by a student assistant to help with logistics and coordination
    • Reading materials must be freely available online, i.e. public domain books
    • In your first introductory meeting, you’ll decide together with your students which reading material you’ll explore as a group.

    What You’ll Do

    • Choose a theme or topic that inspires your group and you (e.g., classic novels, sci-fi, memoirs, global issues, women’s voices)
    • Guide the girls in lively, inclusive discussions to spark critical thinking, imagination, and self-expression
    • Encourage a warm, respectful, and joyful space for sharing ideas
    • Help nurture a love of reading and confidence in speaking English

    Who You Are

    • Someone who loves literature, education, and adventure
    • Comfortable asking open-ended questions and leading group conversations
    • Excited to connect with curious and courageous young women eager to learn

    Interested?

Please introduce yourself by emailing Tabasum, our Project Coordinator for the Advanced Book Club Program. She’s based in Afghanistan and will arrange a meeting with you and help match you to a group and get you set up.
