Duration: Ongoing or minimum 3-month commitment preferred

Compensation:This is a volunteer opportunity only. This position is not paid and is not intended as a pathway to employment.

    Position Summary

The Thrift Shop Inventory Entry Volunteer helps ensure smooth operations in My New House’s thrift shop by creating detailed inventory records of donated items and preparing them for sale. Once items are ready for inventory, this volunteer will log each item, note unique characteristics, research pricing, and organize/edit photos for presentation. The completed inventory list and photo set will then be passed to the data entry volunteer for system input. This role combines organizational skills with creativity to showcase items in the best possible way.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Review donated items once they are cleaned, prepped, and photographed for listing.
    • Log each item into an inventory sheet, including detailed descriptions and unique characteristics (e.g., brand, material, condition, size, color, vintage, etc.).
    • Conduct basic online research to determine a fair and competitive price for each product.
    • Organize and edit item photos to ensure quality and consistency using photo design platforms like Canva or Photoshop.
    • Provide completed inventory lists and edited photo files to the data entry volunteer for digital processing.
    • Work closely with the Thrift Shop Manager to maintain consistency in descriptions, pricing, and visual presentation.
    • Ensure all inventory documentation and photos are accurate, clear, and complete.
    • Treat donated items with care and respect.

    Qualifications

    • Must have a bachelor’s degree in business, fashion, retail, graphic design, or a related field or be currently enrolled in a related degree program.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to describe products clearly and accurately.
    • Experience with photo editing/design software (Canva, Photoshop, or similar platforms).
    • Comfortable using online platforms (eBay, Poshmark, Goodwill, etc.) for pricing research.
    • Interest in retail, secondhand goods, or fundraising a plus.
    • Dependable and able to follow set procedures.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

    Training Provided

    • Orientation to My New House’s mission and thrift shop operations.
    • Training on how to prepare and log items for inventory.
    • Guidance on researching fair market value pricing.
    • Support on photo standards and editing expectations.
