    Community Engagement & Outreach Advisor  

    Position Type: Volunteer / Advisory (Non-voting Board Role)

    Organization: Skills of Life Cafe

    Location: Santa Cruz, CA

    Commitment: Estimated 4-6 hours/month

    Reports to: Executive Director / Board Chair

    About Us

    Skills of LIfe Cafe empowers neurodiverse teens and young adults, including those with mild

    intellectual disabilities, through vocational training in a real-world café setting. Our mission is to

    build inclusive workforce pathways and skills for long-term success and independence.

    Role Summary

    We are seeking a passionate Community Engagement & Outreach Advisor. This strategic,

    non-voting advisory role helps expand our reach in the community, build partnerships, and foster

    awareness of our mission.

    Key Responsibilities

    ● Build relationships with local schools, employers, civic groups, disability organizations,

    and other nonprofits

    ● Identify outreach and partnership opportunities that align with our mission

    ● Represent the organization at events, fairs, and community meetings

    ● Guide strategies for parent/family engagement and volunteer recruitment

    ● Serve as a community ambassador to increase awareness and support

    Qualifications

    ● Experience in community outreach, engagement, education, or nonprofit relations

    ● Strong connector and communicator with a heart for inclusion and equity

    ● Knowledge of, or ties to local communities, schools, or business networks

    ● Ability to lead volunteers or a small committee

    ● Passion for working with or advocating for neurodiverse populations

    ● Previous nonprofit, advisory, or volunteer board experience a plus

    Time Commitment

    ● Approx. 4-6 hours/month

    ● Attend select community events or help coordinate organizational representation

    ● Available for consultation with staff or advisors as needed
