POSITION SUMMARY:
Join the cooking team & assist staff with cooking healthy and nutritious meals for elementary, middle and high school-aged students participating in afterschool programming at the Lussier Community Education Center. Volunteers prepare meals for students on Mondays and Fridays during the academic year.
HOURS:
3-6 hours/week (time dependent on number of shifts per week)
Mondays and/or Fridays 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Following a pre-made meal plan, prepare and serve the dinner meal to 50-80 students. Some foods will have been prepared during the morning volunteer shift. (i.e. potatoes used in mashed potatoes will be washed and peeled; frozen meats will be thawed.)
- Following the meal, store leftovers, and clean kitchen. Students will bring leftover food and dishes to the kitchen window and will clean off tables before storing.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience preparing meals for large numbers of people.
- Ability to work collaboratively with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds, and with minimal supervision from LCEC staff.
- Mature attitude, creativity & resourcefulness.
- Understanding and appreciation of socio-economically, ethnically and culturally diverse populations.
