    Description

The Glades Initiative, Inc. is implementing the Cooking Matters Nutrition Education program throughout the Glades. This is a 6 week cooking class that teaches families how to prepare healthy meals on a low budget, helping them improve the way they shop, cook, and eat.

The mission of the program is to empower families at risk of hunger with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make healthy and affordable meals. The class is offered in both English and Spanish to adults, families (parents with children), teens, children, and seniors.

Volunteers are needed to fill the following roles:

Culinary Educators - experience in culinary arts preferred, but not required.

Nutrition Educators - experience in nutrition preferred, but not required.

Class Assistants - to assist with class preparation, organizational skills required.

Volunteer time commitment for each course is two to three hours per week for six weeks. Volunteer orientation is provided by The Glades Initiative, along with Instructor and class participant materials. Classes will be held at various locations throughout the Glades communities of Canal Point, Pahokee, Belle Glade, and South Bay.
