    Emergency Department Support Volunteer

    OHSU is Oregon’s only public academic health center. Every day, we heal bodies. Ease pain. Welcome new life. Bring the mysteries of science into crisp focus. Teach and challenge the next generation of health professionals. Turn the impossible into reality.

    Everyday, Patient Engagement volunteers show up to provide comfort and companionship to patients who are staying in the hospital. From providing a warm blanket to a family member visiting for their loved one, to distracting a patient with conversation while they wait for a procedure, the impact of a volunteer is felt throughout 20+ inpatient units at OHSU.

    If you love people and are passionate about helping others in their time of need, you will find being a Emergency Department Volunteer to be a rewarding experience. OHSU asks for a 6 month weekly commitment to be a volunteer in our program, though many volunteers choose to stay longer because of how much they enjoy being a volunteer and making a difference. No healthcare experience is necessary.
