    Description

    We need volunteers to lead discussion groups, develop educational materials, brainstorm interactive activities on topics including health and wellness, safety, arts and more. Below is a list of programs we would like to develop and/or improve:

    • Computer Lab
    • Arts & Crafts
    • Educational (Self-advocacy, security, history, etc.)
    • Aquatics and Fitness
    • Music therapy
    • Pet therapy
    • Nutrition

    Skills and topics outside of these areas are welcome! Hours are flexible M-F 9-3 PM.

    Volunteer Requirements:

    • 30 hours of service in 3 months or 1 year of service
    • Volunteer Application, interview, and below list of requirements.

    St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center REQUIRES the following to be completed after volunteer offer is made and before beginning work at SMSC:

    • Physical, tuberculosis screening and drug/alcohol screening.

    The employer at its sole expense provides this examination. Every offer is contingent upon a volunteer’s successful completion of these examinations.

    • Criminal record clearance (Fingerprinting). Conviction will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from volunteering. However, failure to disclose any conviction will disqualify an applicant.
    • Proof of citizenship or immigration status.
    • If you are under 18 years of age, you must provide consent from a legal guardian.
    • 2-3 hour orientation training.
    • Acknowledgement of receipt of SMSC Volunteer Handbook.

    Our mission is to educate and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. To give them the space and resources to let them realize their full potential. By volunteering, you will bring our students one step closer to realizing that they, too, can make an impact on the world. The smiles you will see will be even more rewarding than our free daily lunches.
