Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Team Lead, the Accountant will serve as a full-charge accountant to Fohrman & Fohrman’s nonprofit clients. Key responsibilities include preparing and posting A/R, A/P, payroll, journal entries, bank and credit card reconciliations and review and maintenance of accounting system and process improvements. The Accountant must be highly organized, able to multitask and have the ability to communicate with nonprofit clients in a highly supportive, professional manner.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Support client operations by preparing and entering accounting transactions, including but not limited to A/P, A/R, payroll, journal entries
- Ensure complete and accurate general ledger/project coding for all transactions
- Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, client and company policies, and any funding requirements
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closes and ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
- Resolve accounting discrepancies and prepare and post accounting entries necessary to correct
- Review general ledger account balances and perform analytical procedures to correct, as needed; prepare accurate and timely corrections of journal vouchers
- Complete and prepare account reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts, including bank and investment accounts
- Prepare internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger and other resources
- Support clients’ annual financial process with external audit teams
- Run standard reports using the client accounting systems and prepare or assist in the preparation of special reports as requested
- Understand and execute client Service Agreement, Exhibit A “Scope of Work”. Includes tracking and reporting budget vs. actual results to Team Lead and client as necessary
- Review client grant contracts and extract pertinent information
- Track and report on client grant funding sources and related expenses
- Continuously identify and make suggestions for work process improvements to streamline client accounting processes for efficiency and effectiveness
- Maintains the security of all client and company accounts and records
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
- Follow all company policies and procedures
- Provide excellent customer service and professional written communications free of grammatical and spelling errors

Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years of full charge bookkeeping or equivalent accounting experience
- Full understanding of accrual accounting
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP
- Highly proficient in MS Excel
- Comfortable with accounting and general enterprise software systems
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Calm and professional manner
Preferred Qualifications / Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Nonprofit accounting experience
- QuickBooks ProAdvisor
- Consulting experience, working with multiple clients at one time
- Grants management experience
