    Description

    Senior Tax-Exempt Organizations Attorney

    (Part-Time, Telecommuting)

Ewenstein & Roth LLP is a nationally recognized boutique law firm focusing exclusively on nonprofit organizations and social entrepreneurs. We are mission-driven and entrepreneurial and are proud to represent some of today’s most inspiring philanthropists and cutting-edge charities.

We seek an experienced attorney (7+ years of legal work experience counseling non-profit and tax-exempt organizations) with strong academic and professional credentials for a part-time position with our firm. This is a unique opportunity to work on a broad range of matters for non-profit organizations and social entrepreneurs.

The position will involve the full breadth of our practice, including drafting and negotiating a broad range of agreements, preparing submissions to the NY Attorney General and the IRS, and drafting memos and advising clients on diverse legal issues primarily involving New York and federal laws applicable to tax-exempt organizations.

    Prerequisites:

    • In-depth knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, corresponding Treasury Regulations governing tax-exempt organizations and NY Not-for-Profit Corporation Law.
    • Demonstrated skills in counseling tax-exempt organizations on compliance, governance and transactional matters.
    • Prior experience drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts for non-profit organizations, such as grant agreements, independent contractor agreements, vendor agreements, collaboration agreements, merger agreements, and licensing agreements.
    • Must be a member in good standing of the New York bar.

    Additional Skills/Qualifications:

    • Exceptional attention to detail
    • Strong project management skills
    • Highly organized and self-motivated
    • Excellent writing and analytic skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to work as a team player and independently
    • Comfortable with juggling diverse projects, budgeting time and meeting deadlines
    • Ability to explain legal concepts to non-lawyers
    • Capable of exercising judgment where appropriate
    • Proficiency with online research tools
    • Familiarity with intellectual property laws is a plus
    • Large firm and/or in-house counsel experience desirable

The job is similar to being an in-house counsel at a non-profit organization. The salary is $100,000/year for approximately 20 hours/week.

While our work environment is fast-paced and demands excellence in meeting client needs, the position has a fair amount of flexibility in terms of hours and location. The daily schedule will vary depending on workload and client deadlines. This is a telecommuting position with time in the office based on project needs.

Please send a cover letter highlighting your experience and skill-set in light of the job description set forth above and résumé to admin@eyrlaw.com. No telephone calls please. Because of the high volume of anticipated applicants, we regret that we will be unable to respond to all submissions.

Thank you for your interest in our practice.
