    Overview of the Consultant’s role:

    The Strategic & Business Planning Consultant will be a full-time team member of the S&W Strategic & Business Planning team, reporting to the Vice President of Strategic & Business Planning and may also serve on project teams within the Development Consulting line of service.

    The Consultant will conduct a variety of strategic and organizational planning projects from inception through completion, supporting the project lead and creating high-quality, client-facing materials. This position will also be engaged in business development efforts, including drafting proposals, sales presentations and lead generation.

    Professionalism and excellent communication skills, the capacity to process information quickly and efficiently, the ability to work both collaboratively on a team and independently, and a consistent record of delivering high-quality work are fundamental elements of this position.

    Position responsibilities include:

    • Supporting strategic planning processes from beginning through completion (ranging from 3-months to 8-months).
    • Conducting stakeholder interviews, designing and programming surveys and analyzing survey results, conducting market research and data analysis and synthesizing information into digestible, insightful reports.
    • Presenting to executive leaders, board members, staff, community members and others.
    • Drafting written materials including the final strategic plan report.
    • Proofing and formatting all project materials.
    • Assisting with scheduling and supporting project management to ensure projects remain on time and on budget.
    • Participating in business development, including engaging in sales calls, drafting proposals, and creating and delivering sales presentations.
    • Assisting with S&W marketing efforts, including writing articles and content for social media and attending networking events.
    • Staying current with trends in the nonprofit sector.
    • Upholding S&W’s reputation for providing clients with exceptional service and outcomes.

    Candidate Experience and Required Skills

    • Five years of relevant professional experience and direct experience with organization-wide strategic planning
    • Experience working inside or closely with nonprofit organizations and knowledgeable on nonprofit operations, program development, fundraising and financial management, stakeholder engagement, etc.
    • Strong research capabilities, including data analysis and demonstrated ability to synthesize large amounts of information into digestible, insight-driven reports
    • Experience conducting stakeholder interviews and facilitating meetings/focus groups/workshops
    • Ability to manage 4-7 client projects at a time along with other regular job duties
    • Understanding of nonprofit fundraising and, ideally, experience serving in fundraising role or role-adjacent
    • Financial analysis/financial modeling capabilities are a big plus
    • Highly skilled in relationship-management
    • Excellent writing skills and strong experience writing professional reports
    • Exceptional communications and presentation skills
