    Description

    Community Healing Garden

Our Garden program started in 2022, on a 3000 sq ft land lot in Chicago & runs from March-November. Our three (3) main objectives are beautification, education & recreation. We designed the space to grow herbs, teach about its usage & benefits, offer a sacred circle, healing through play activities & sanctuary.

There are a lot of empty lots in the community we serve. The land lot the garden is on currently has 4 dead trees on it. It is an open space for prostitution & drug transactions. Cutting down the trees will cut down the transactions & create greater safety & connection to the neighbors & school across the way.

The block that the garden is on just created its first block club & the community healing garden is one of the consistent activities that families, homeowners, youth can participate in.

    • Cutting down trees
    • Cleaning, Weeding & Mulching (Monthly)
    • Fencing designs
    • Signage

HYU partnered with Green Lots Project to offer Urban Farming workshops in Chicago.

It is our desire to create and maintain a group of committed members who will serve as the leadership collective. We are offering a hands-on Urban Farming and Gardening training course.

By participating in this training, you will learn:

    • Fundamentals of Gardening/Urban Farming
    • Importance of testing the soil
    • Stages of compost
    • Harvesting & preservation
    • Importance of Nutrition
