    Description

    The Family Online Safety Institute is an international, non-profit organization that works to make the online world safer for kids and their families. FOSI convenes leaders in industry, government, and the non-profit sectors to collaborate and innovate new solutions and policies in the field of online safety. Through research, resources, events, and special projects, FOSI promotes a culture of responsibility online and encourages a sense of digital citizenship for all. FOSI brings together and highlights the best safety messages, tools, and methods to reach parents, children, and caregivers. We continually expand our efforts to educate and inform governments, regulators, industry, and media around the world on a balanced approach to online safety.

    The Policy Intern will support the Policy Team in researching, analyzing, and tracking online safety legislation. This role involves assisting with event logistics, providing administrative support, and engaging with stakeholders. The intern will gain valuable experience in policy analysis, event coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    Legislative Tracking and Policy Support

    • Assist in tracking and monitoring online safety legislation and regulatory developments at both state and federal levels by managing databases and making timely updates.
    • Analyze trends in online safety legislation and synthesize information from thought leaders in the field.
    • Draft written statements, position papers, and policy briefs as needed.

    Special Projects

    • Perform administrative tasks specific to policy initiatives, such as organizing and maintaining policy documents, files, and records.
    • Assist in the preparation and distribution of policy-related correspondence, reports, and briefing materials.
    • Schedule and coordinate policy team meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items.
    • Manage the logistics for policy-related events, workshops, and webinars, ensuring all necessary materials and resources are prepared.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Track important news, blogs, and resources in the trust & safety space and emerging technology as a whole.
    • Discover new organizations and people in the online safety space and share relevant resources with the team.
    • Engage with potential experts and collaborators for FOSI’s policy initiatives.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate student with a policy-related focus
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, and G Suite
