    Description

    Overview

    The Durfee Foundation is a private family foundation that invests in extraordinary people and organizations across Los Angeles County. The Program and Operations Associate will gain experience across all aspects of foundation work while supporting our Sabbatical, Stanton, Lark, and Springboard programs. This position offers unique exposure to a diverse range of nonprofit executive leaders and provides a comprehensive view of LA's social sector. The Associate will be part of a small, collaborative team reporting to the Director of Programs and Operations.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Support

    • Provide administrative support for program activities
    • Assist with grantee convenings, peer learning opportunities, and grant selection
    • Support wellness initiatives and maintain fellow relationships

    Organizational Operations

    • Manage database systems, data entry, and office management
    • Light bookkeeping: invoice processing, payment tracking, expense reconciliation
    • Support CEO with Board communications and meeting coordination
    • Coordinate office management tasks including potential office relocation

    Event Production

    • Plan and execute convenings, workshops, and special events for nonprofit leaders
    • Manage all event logistics: venues, vendors, catering, RSVPs, invitations
    • Provide onsite event support and manage vendor relationships

    Communications & Digital Presence

    • Update and maintain website content to accurately reflect current programs and fellows
    • Support the organization's digital presence and online communications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and 2+ years of relevant experience
    • Valid California driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and current auto insurance (regular travel throughout LA County to locations not easily accessible by public transit)
    • Strong tech proficiency: Mac OS, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Google Workspace, WordPress, Zoom
    • Database management and online application systems (Foundant or similar preferred)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Event planning or project management experience
    • General knowledge of and genuine interest in the nonprofit sector

    • Customer service orientation, including excellent telephone and email etiquette
    • Good judgment and diplomacy in dealing with diverse stakeholders
    • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently
    • Flexibility and adaptability
    • Genuine passion for Los Angeles and the nonprofit sector
    • Graphic design or advanced web design skills (bonus)

    Compensation and Benefits

    • $35-40 per hour, depending on experience
    • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
    • 403(b) with employer match after one year of employment
    • 12 paid holidays annually, plus Summer Break, Winter Recess, and birthday off
    • 13 vacation days in year one; 15 days per year thereafter
    • 10 sick days in year one; 15 days per year thereafter
    • Professional development opportunities
    • Mileage reimbursement for work-related travel; Public transit stipend

    Working Conditions

    • Standard work schedule with occasional evenings and weekends for events
    • Requires sitting at a desk for extended periods
    • Regular travel throughout LA County
    • May occasionally lift/move boxes and objects up to 50 pounds
