    About Us

    After School Activities Partnerships (ASAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to building confidence, community, and college/career readiness in Philadelphia youth through afterschool programs in Chess, Speech & Debate, Drama, and Scrabble.

    Chess Club Leader

    Each Chess Club Leader will receive training, a curriculum, club supplies, and ongoing support from the ASAP Chess team to lead an afterschool ASAP Chess club for weekly sessions during the school year; exact dosage varies by school. Opportunities for additional weeks are possible depending on site interest.

    Clubs will serve elementary or middle school youth at a school or community site designated by the City Office of Children and Families as in high need of quality afterschool programming. In accordance with City guidelines, the consultant to student ratio is 1:12.

    Pay rate will reflect the specialized nature of an afterschool program for chess.

    Qualifications

    • Enjoys working with kids in grades K-8
    • Ability to teach chess strategy, and lead kids through chess puzzles and exercises, using the ASAP Chess curriculum (will receive live, virtual chess club leader training from ASAP)
    • Able to embody and transmit 5 specific social-emotional learning skills that are embedded in the Scrabble curriculum to students—grit, social awareness, sense of belonging, self-efficacy, and growth mindset (will receive training on these skills from ASAP)
    • Excited to help kids grow in chess
    • Opportunity to consult at more than one club (different weekdays) depending on number of interested schools
    • Ability to pass clearances necessary to work with children

    Scrabble Club Leader
