    Job Type: 32 hours per week. Local travel is required.

    Compensation: $25 an hour

    Schedule: The schedule for this position is Wednesday through Saturdays, 9am-5pm, and during programs as needed.

    Position Purpose: The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Southwest Seattle Historical Society’s (SWSHS) programmatic offerings, with an emphasis on coordinating, promoting, and developing public programs, overseeing Log House Museum visitor services, and managing SWSHS’s volunteer and tour programs.

    This position will join SWSHS’s Executive Director to provide high-quality, engaging, and sustainable public programs.

    Southwest Seattle Historical Society’s mission is to promote inclusive local history through education, preservation, and advocacy. SWSHS is governed by a twelve-member board of directors and maintains active community-sourced advisory committees, including Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI), Finance, Facilities, Collections, and Events Committees.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Coordinate, promote, and develop Southwest Seattle Historical Society’s programs for learners of all ages and abilities, including the monthly virtual speaker series, public and school group walking tours, Art Walk, and family programming at the Log House Museum during community events.
    • Oversee Log House Museum visitor services, including overseeing Museum Greeter volunteers, staffing visitor services when there are gaps in coverage, and managing and developing museum retail offerings.
    • Collaborate with community partners and museum staff to develop engaging programmatic offerings for visitors of all ages.
    • Creatively promote SWSHS programs through the website, social media, email campaigns, and other marketing opportunities.
    • Support SWSHS’s volunteer program, including recruiting and onboarding new volunteers.
    • Support SWSHS’s outreach program by attending community events.

    Requirements:

    • At least one year experience working or volunteering with museums, historical societies, nonprofits and/or experience working or volunteering with organizations that provide public or youth programming.
    • Demonstrated proficiency using Customer Relationship Management databases, web hosting sites, social media, and other software tools, including Microsoft Office.
    • Physical activities required to perform the functions of this job include the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk up to a mile, climb stairs, lift up to 30 lbs, and operate a computer.

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of nonprofit and museum best practices
    • Experience working with diverse audiences
    • Strong communication, cultural literacy, interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • Knowledge of the history of the Duwamish Peninsula, Seattle, and/or Washington State history
    • Demonstrates a creative and mission-driven aptitude
    • Ability to be a self-starter, work independently, and work in a flexible work environment
