The Position
The Data Analyst will assist with independent and collaborative projects to increase understanding of education funding in various states throughout the United States. This will include analysis of state education funding systems and investigation of the impact of both state and federal policy changes on budgets and schools. The Analyst will focus on the collection, analysis, and visualization of public and open source data to highlight policy options and provide technical guidance to stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct analysis related to public education finance, governance, and revenue
- Develop information products for print and web publication
- Collect, maintain, and analyze data and information related to the work of EdFund's in state work, including public education data, census data, open source data, academic research, and current events
- Effectively manage time to include work on multiple projects, accommodate tight deadlines, and prioritize assignments as necessary
Experience and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree required; education, statistics, social sciences, business, public policy, or related fields
- Research mindset with bias towards action
- Familiarity with data management, processing, and analysis
- Experience employing data and analysis to answer practical questions and support public policy recommendations
- Experience in communicating findings through visualization, writing, and presentation
- Proficiency with R or Python for data management and analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Experience and Skills Preferred
- Prior research, data science modeling, or visualization experience
- Experience working with geospatial data - ArcGIS, QGIS, Mapbox Products, or R
- Proficiency with visualization tools – JavaScript, RShiny, d3, or Tableau
- Education or public policy experience
