    Description

    The Children’s Legal Center (CLC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free immigration legal services to children and their families across Illinois and Indiana who have experienced victimization. CLC has well-established partnerships with domestic violence service centers in Illinois and directly represents clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court. CLC has also begun representing detained clients.

    Position Description

    CLC is seeking a Full-Time Law Clerk to join our team. This clerk would work under our MIDA program that handles detained clients that are Illinois residences and children in the United States. This law clerk would directly assist staff attorneys with the following duties:

    • Schedule and conduct Intakes w/ detainees using SALESFORCE through MIDA.
    • Filling out Referral/ Intake forms
    • Schedule Appointments with detained clients
    • Contacting ICE facilities to facilitate communication with Detainees who are MIDA clients.
    • Work with attorneys handling the case to gather information.
    • Keep contact with the detainees family, help families gather information and evidence related to the cases.
    • Due to the urgency in these cases, it may require support staff to work after hours.
    • This also includes possible travel to ICE facilities, if the attorneys need interpretation assistance while making those flights.

    Position Requirements

    • Feel comfortable going to federal buildings, or ICE detainment centers
    • Fluent in Spanish and English
    • Familiar with trauma-informed practices
    • Fast- Learner okay with fast paced work
    • Bilingual (Primarily Spanish– most of our families are Spanish speakers).
    • This does not mean just understanding Spanish, but rather being able to effectively communicate thought processes and hold a conversation in Spanish and English.
    • Trauma Informed
    • Communicative, empathetic, and patient
    • Must be detail oriented and have excellent organization and communication skills
    • Must be passionate about working with children and families

    Compensation

    This is a paid position with a starting salary of $45,000 per year. The position also includes benefits such as life, medical, vision and dental insurance along with a 401k contribution.
