    Description

Job Title: Canvasser - CA Calls Prop 50

    About KIWA Action:

KIWA Action is a 501(c)(4) organization that organizes workers, renters, people of color, immigrants, and all people who know that, together, we can create a better world. We advocate for policy change and promote voting, running for elective office, and participating actively in the democratic process to achieve a more socially, racially, and economically just country.

    Overview:

We are seeking dynamic individuals to work as part of a team dedicated to transparency and a fair democracy for our country. This November, Los Angeles and California voters will have an opportunity to pass Proposition 50, a measure that temporarily replaces California’s current congressional district maps with new ones drawn by the Legislature, for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 elections.

As a Program Associate, you will be on the front line helping voters understand what Prop 50 means: how it alters the redistricting process, why it’s being proposed in response to partisan maps being drawn in other states, and what its temporary status implies until after the 2030 Census. This position requires punctuality, teamwork, courage to engage with voters on tough issues, and a commitment to defending democracy.

    Job Duties

    • Canvass residential neighborhoods to educate and encourage registered voters to support Proposition 50 this November
    • Attend canvasser orientation and ongoing trainings
    • Conduct outreach via phone and text message banking
    • Meet or exceed daily/weekly outreach goals as set by the program
    • Accurately track conversation and data using canvassing software/apps
    • Collect voter contact information for future outreach efforts
    • Must be able to use a cellphone, laptop, zoom, web browser and canvassing application.
    • Team members must use their own smartphone for outreach.
    • Canvassers must be prepared to work in all types of weather, complete light physical activities such as standing or walking for long periods of time and be able to carry up to 10 pounds.

    Qualifications

    • Prior canvassing or grassroots outreach experience required
    • Bilingual English-Spanish or English-Korean strongly preferred
    • Must be able to navigate through neighborhoods and speak to tenants and workers
    • Integrity and mature judgment
    • Dependable, punctual, and able to work within a team structure
    • Passion for workers, immigrant, and tenants rights
    • Having a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation is preferred.

    Employment Status: Temporary, at-will, non-exempt

    Period: September 30 - November 4, 2024

    Salary Information: $22 - $24 hour

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 3pm to 8pm. Up to 16 hours/week. Extra hours as approved by supervisor only.
