    Furnishing Hope of Massachusetts, Inc. (FHMA) is a Cambridge-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping families create safe, comfortable, and nurturing homes as they transition out of homelessness. We provide essential furniture and household goods, as well as delivery and set up services, helping families make a fresh start. FHMA serves families throughout the Greater Boston area.

    The Operations Coordinator plays a vital role in carrying out FHMA’s mission, overseeing core activities such as furniture deliveries, in-kind donation intake, and volunteer management. This role ensures smooth day-to-day operations and works closely with the Executive Director, as well as providing shared oversight of the part-time Data Coordinator.     Key Responsibilities

    Management of Delivery & Inventory

    • Coordinate and ensure timely delivery of furniture and “Starter Sets” (bedding, kitchen, bathroom, and toiletries) to FHMA clients.
    • Manage home goods inventory, scheduling, and delivery logistics in collaboration with social service partners and vendors.
    • Supervise preparation of Starter Sets—completed primarily by volunteers, and by the Operations Coordinator as needed.
    • Monitor inventory levels to maintain minimum stock for clients.
    • Oversee vendor relationships on operational matters.
    • Deliver Starter Sets to families and supervise professional movers during furniture deliveries (up to 2 days per week).

    Volunteer Management

    • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
    • Serve as the primary contact for volunteer inquiries and opportunities.

    Fundraising, Marketing & Outreach

    • Assist in outreach to potential donors of furniture and home goods, including local businesses, congregations, and community groups.
    • Support preparation of grant-related materials.

    Website & Social Media

    • Assist with updates to FHMA’s website and social media (Facebook, Instagram) to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging content.

    General Support

    • Assist with data entry, event support, supply ordering, and other operational needs.
    • Contribute to fundraising events and other special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
    • 2+ years of administrative office experience preferred (volunteer experience considered).
    • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience recruiting, training, or supervising volunteers.
    • Strong computer skills, including Excel; database experience is a plus.
    • Nonprofit sector experience preferred but not required.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
