    Description

    Friends of the Children–Portland is hiring full-time, professional youth mentors—we call them “Friends.” Friends build long-term, intentional relationships with youth facing systemic barriers from kindergarten through high school graduation. Our work is high-quality youth development that drives generational change, one child at a time.

    About the Role:

      • Each Friend mentors about 8 youth (ages 4–18) through 1:1 outings, school visits, and intentional activities to build skills and help youth find their spark
      • Collaborate with caregivers, teachers, and other professionals to align goals and resources
      • Friends model positive decision-making, support academics, and help youth set and achieve life goals
    • This is not a volunteer or drop-in center role

    Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree and one year of youth development experience, an Associate’s degree and three years’ experience, or seven years of experience without a degree
      • Driver’s license and vehicle to travel between worksites and transport youth
      • Cultural responsiveness and commitment to equity
      • Bilingual candidates strongly are encouraged to apply
