    Description

    Sheridan Rising Together for Equity (SRTFE), community-based organization in the city of Sheridan Colorado. The mission of SRTFE its to empower the Sheridan community to achieve health equity and inclusive systems. We do so through community engagement and empowerment, youth leadership,and community organizing.

    We are currently seeking one committed and passionate part-time Youth Program Organizer to lead youth as change agents and leaders in our community.

    Overview: Youth Organizer will work with the youth team to develop and implement their own work plans, youth-led activities and events and other youth-led programming and campaigns.

    Work with youth to further develop leadership skills and Organizing skills.

    The Youth Organizer is an employee of CNDC and will follow CNDC’s policies and procedures.

    Logistics

    • SCHEDULE: Part-time, non-exempt; evening and weekend hours required. Not to exceed 30 hours a week.
    • PAY AND BENEFITS: $21-23 per hour based on experience. These positions include health care benefits Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short and Long Term Disability, Telehealth, LifeLock
    • TRAVEL: Work-related travel is required and the employee will be reimbursed for mileage at the IRS standard mileage rate.
    • EQUIPMENT: The organizer is required to have reliable access to a vehicle and possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and valid auto insurance.
    • LOCATION: The ability to work from home, as well as community meeting spaces for team and community meetings. Preference will be given to candidates living (or planning to live) within the Sheridan community.
    • REPORTS TO: Sheridan Rising Together For Equity Executive Director

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead a group of youth leaders by developing the leadership, organizing skills, and political consciousness of members.
    • Work with youth to identify a set of issues/challenges and strategize to solve these issues and mobilize
    • Facilitate & create agendas for Youth meetings
    • Ensure student paperwork is in order, such as attendance records and event participation records.
    • Participate in the recruitment of team members who reflect the most affected populations, specifically youth
    • Provide skill building training, one-to-one coaching/mentoring, political education sessions, and regular touch point with leaders
    • Provide support and help the team build capacity around youth leadership development and engagement
    • Maintain a positive relationship with the Executive Director and organizing team; accept direction and provide guidance.
    • Attend team and community meetings
    • Assure the organization and its mission, programs, are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to our community
    • Identify partner organizations or contractors for Youth education and resources- invite to team meetings as needed
    • Outreach to and build relationships with community residents, parents, youth, teachers, businesses, churches and civic groups using a variety of outreach methods including one-on–one meetings, door knocking, attending community and school meetings, flyer creation and distribution, and other methods
    • Attend local networking meetings to learn about resources and programs in Sheridan
    • Serve as representative of team to the school district and other organizations
    • Serve as a connector between the team and youth in Sheridan
    • Other youth-related work, as directed.

    Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

    • High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree recommended
    • Minimum of 2 years of youth work related experience
    • Commitment to social justice and youth empowerment efforts a must
    • Bilingual (Spanish/ English) preferred
    • Good computer skills - Microsoft Office, e-mail
    • Knowledgeable about academic, employment, mental health and other community resources for youth
    • Strong verbal and written skills
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work in a team, as well as to take initiative and work independently
    • Quick learner
    • Ability to work with a diverse range of people and to motivate them to become involved in community work
    • Enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated, dependable, responsible and creative.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends
    • Passion for health and race equity
    • Positive Role model for youth
