    Description

    The Director of Advancement is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the visibility, branding, and public engagement of the Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) through comprehensive marketing, digital media, and public relations strategies. In addition, the Director partners with the Executive Director on development initiatives that strengthen donor relationships and advance the organization’s fundraising goals and long-term sustainability. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position works closely with staff, board members, and committees to ensure AAN’s mission is effectively promoted and supported.

    Key Responsibilities

    Marketing & Communications

    • Design and implement an integrated marketing and communications plan to promote exhibitions, educational programs, and fundraising events.
    • Oversee and strengthen AAN’s brand identity across all digital and print platforms.
    • Manage social media channels with original, engaging content that deepens community engagement.
    • Draft and distribute press releases, media outreach, and weekly electronic newsletters.
    • Maintain and update AAN’s website to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and user-friendly content.
    • Partner with the graphic designer to produce publications, including the Annual Report, Gala Book, and Annual Appeal.
    • Ensure all communications reflect high standards of quality, consistency, and alignment with AAN’s mission.
    • Research, write, and submit grant proposals; track deadlines, compliance, and reporting requirements.
    • Support the Executive Director and Board of Directors in leveraging communications to cultivate donor and member relationships.

    Development

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Development Committee to execute an annual development plan.
    • Cultivate and steward donors, sponsors, members, and prospects, ensuring strong and lasting relationships.
    • Support major fundraising initiatives, including annual giving campaigns, membership programs, and donor stewardship.
    • Play a key role in planning and executing AAN’s signature fundraising events (Spring Sweep, Gala, Wet Paint Weekend), securing sponsorships and community support.
    • Identify and pursue new sponsorships and business partnerships to expand AAN’s funding base.
