Our major projects include supporting the Southeast Asian community in dealing with deportation procedures, fighting against gentrification and displacement in low-income immigrant neighborhoods, educating nail salon workers about their rights, protecting the voting rights for limited English proficient speakers, assisting immigrants in legal documentation issues, and advocating for language access. This is a generalist position, with a primary focus on serving the legal needs of households impacted by immigration issues and/or deportation.

    • Managing a caseload that will include full representation cases, as well as counsel and advice, limited assistance representation, and other brief legal services;
    • Co-counseling with other AOC staff on litigation and/or immigration matters;
    • Participating in systemic advocacy that promotes the interests of GBLS clients;
    • Providing culturally competent services to all clients;
    • Developing and promoting relationships with community partners;
    • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills in immigration law;
    • Maintaining up-to-date awareness of immigration developments that impact GBLS clients sufficient to provide appropriate referrals or advice;
    • Attending community-based intakes; and
    • Conducting know your rights training and presentations to community organizations and partners.

    Qualifications: Massachusetts bar admission and previous legal experience assisting clients with immigrations matters, specifically removal defense and/or federal litigation is preferred. The ideal candidate also should have substantial experience working with low income individuals as well as prior supervisory or leadership experience. Flexibility to work some weekends or evenings to accommodate client and community partner needs. Fluency in Vietnamese, Cantonese, or Mandarin is preferred, but not required. An attorney with 4-7 years of experience is preferred.
