    Description

    OVERVIEW

    Smart from the Start (Smart) is a family support, community engagement, and school

    readiness initiative that empowers families and communities with the tools, resources, and

    support they need to break cycles of chronic school underachievement and generational poverty.

    Smart Has Its Mission To:

    • Create programs for crisis intervention and family stabilization
    • Encourage parents to be their children's first teachers;
    • Foster community support for school preparation.
    • Offer resources and assistance to underprivileged families;
    • Strengthen early learning opportunities for children.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    The Program Facilitator will work with the Program Coordinator and the Smart team by:

    • Facilitating Early Childhood Programming for caregivers with children 0 - 5 years of age
    • and participating in programs or events with caregivers 0 - 17 years of age
    • Developing and managing outreach strategies in partnership with staff to increase family
    • participation in services;
    • Maintaining steady interest and enrollment in programming and increasing family income
    • participation;
    • Managing program equipment, inventory, and supplies for site-specific Smart from the
    • Start related programs.
    • Collecting and maintaining the necessary information and documentation to support the program
    • evaluation in coordination with Smart staff and program evaluators;
    • Participating in site-specific, Smart all staff meetings and trainings as necessary;
    • Representing Smart from the Start at various community meetings and events; Preferred

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    HS Diploma/GED required, Associate's Degree preferred. Significant work experience with

    culturally diverse families and ethnically and economically diverse communities; Ability to

    develop strong working relationships with others (individuals, families, co-workers, and

    community agencies); Knowledge of and familiarity with Boston neighborhoods, community

    organizations, and schools; Solid written and oral communication skills; Ability to lead others,

    work independently, and work as part of a team.

    Preferably Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Cantonese/Mandarin bilingual speakers.

    Hours:

    • Part-time
    • Including some evenings and weekends
    • Has the ability to travel
    • This position will report to the Smart from the Start Program Coordinator and/or Program Manager.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Preferably Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Cantonese/Mandarin bilingual speakers.
