SUMMARY:
Big Life Foundation USA (Big Life) is a holistic conservation nonprofit with on-the-ground operations in East Africa. While initially founded to stop the rampant poaching of elephants in the Greater Amboseli ecosystem, it has since grown in scope to include holistic wildlife protection, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, habitat protection, and community initiatives. Big Life was granted 501(c)(3)status in the US in 2010 and has charitable status in the UK and Canada. Operations in Kenya have been ongoing for more than three decades, formerly as the Maasailand Preservation Trust.
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and creative professional to join our team as a Digital Marketing & Design Specialist. This role blends web development, graphic design, and digital communications to strengthen our fundraising and outreach. The successful candidate will support the organization by optimizing our website, designing print and digital materials, and using analytics to help track and expand our supporter base.
Key Responsibilities
Web Development & Digital Marketing (50%)
- Support integration of web platforms with donor management and communications systems.
- Ensure the website remains mobile-friendly, accessible, and visually consistent with branding and accurate, timely and user-friendly content.
- Create and update web elements to support various fundraising and communications campaigns.
- Implement SEO best practices and tracking digital performance using analytics tools.
- Conduct periodic website audits for SEO, UX, and ADA/WCAG accessibility compliance; implement improvements accordingly.
- Manage paid social media advertising campaigns across platforms, including retargeting strategies to engage priority audiences.
- Monitor ad performance, analyze results, and adjust targeting, creative, and budgets to maximize reach and impact.
- Collaborate with the communications and outreach team to align marketing with organizational goals, messaging, and fundraising initiatives.
- Manage Google Ads (Google Ad Grants and paid campaigns), ensuring compliance with grant requirements and best practices for search engine marketing.
- Monitor and report on digital performance using Google Analytics (GA4), Google Search Console, and other analytics dashboards.
Graphic Design & Creative Support (40%)
- Design and produce print and digital materials, including fundraising appeals, campaign graphics, social media assets, event collateral, annual reports, and more.
- Work with fundraising and communications teams to develop compelling visuals that enhance storytelling and donor engagement.
- Maintain brand guidelines and ensure consistent use across all channels.
General Support (10%)
- Provide design and digital support for email marketing, social media, and special projects.
- Collaborate with the Deputy Director and colleagues to support organizational goals.
- Stay up-to-date on nonprofit digital marketing and design trends.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in web development, graphic design, digital marketing, communications, or related field, and/or 5-7 years of equivalent work experience.
- Hands-on experience with website management (Joomla or other CMS; basic HTML/CSS preferred).
- Proficiency in graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma and/or equivalent).
- Knowledge of digital marketing strategies, analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media insights, etc.), and SEO fundamentals.
- Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills, with ability to work independently and balance multiple deadlines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with nonprofit fundraising platforms (Virtuous, Fundraise Up, Network for Good, etc.).
- Experience with Google Grants and retargeting campaigns.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar).
- Basic knowledge of video editing and/or motion graphics is a plus.
- Interest and experience in African wildlife conservation is also a plus.
