    Girls on the Run International is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. GOTR is a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. Girls on the Run (GOTR) Greater Charlotte is one of the largest councils in network, serving Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Catawba and Cleveland counties.

    Position Summary: 

    The Council Director for GOTR Greater Charlotte is responsible for developing, managing and ensuring the success of the council. Pulling from a strong combination of fundraising, strategic planning, team development and community engagement experience, the Council Director will lead three program and engagement staff members and partner with an advisory board of directors to achieve organizational goals and grow the council’s presence and impact.

    As a department of Girls on the Run International, GOTR Greater Charlotte benefits from key functions, such as financial administration, human resources, and technology, managed centrally by HQ. This structure enables the Council Director to focus on driving program growth, deepening community partnerships and leading successful fundraising efforts to ensure sustainability.

    The ideal candidate is energized by new challenges and skilled at executing a strategic vision. They can effectively manage staff and engage with an advisory board to achieve goals. This candidate has a proven ability to identify opportunities, develop strategies, and successfully execute plans for organizational growth.

    Fundraising & Partnerships

    • Develop and implement a diversified annual fundraising plan in collaboration with GOTR HQ and the Greater Charlotte Advisory Board that increases contributed income.
    • Oversee and actively participate in fundraising efforts including the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors and corporate sponsors, grants, special events, etc.
    • Develop and engage Fund Development Committee in generating contributed income.
    • Serve as key relationship manager for all funders.
    • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy with staff and the Advisory Board.

    Leadership & Team Development

    • Create the annual council budget and complete all council reporting requirements.
    • Closely manage monthly revenue and expenses in accordance with the annual budget.
    • With Girls on the Run Key Performance Indicators as a guide, contribute to and track progress towards organizational goals.
    • Utilize data to build and implement council operational and strategic plans that address current and future needs.
    • In collaboration with GOTR HQ and the GOTR Greater Charlotte Advisory Board, design and successfully implement plans for GOTR Charlotte’s transition to independent council status.
    • Create strategies to build a strong, inclusive environment for staff, volunteers and participants.
    • Develop, support and empower staff to ensure programming is implemented according to national guidelines.
    • Determine workforce planning strategy, set individual and council objectives, and evaluate staff performance.

    Community Development

    • Develop community relationships to cultivate partners and volunteers to ensure council revenue, volunteer and site goals are achieved or exceeded.
    • Establish and steward partnerships with like-minded organizations that are aligned with the Girls on the Run mission.
    • Develop relationships with the local media and serve as GOTR Greater Charlotte spokesperson to market the program and build additional community support.
    • Leverage an in-depth understanding of the local nonprofit landscape to strategically position GOTR Greater Charlotte.

    Program Delivery & Quality

    • Manage program staff and collaboratively develop growth strategies for site and program expansion.
    • Ensure program staff deepen existing and establish new relationships with school partners across the council territory to extend reach while maintaining program quality.
    • Oversee program delivery, ensuring safety, belonging and accessibility.
    • Ensure site, participant and volunteer goals are met and 5k events achieve program and revenue goals.
    • Cultivate relationships with coaches, donors, parents, participants, sponsors and volunteers.
    • Oversee effective management of end-of-season 5k's.

    Qualifications

    • 7+ years progressive leadership including staff supervision and budget responsibility.
    • Proven fundraising success.
    • Experience working with or supporting a Board of Directors.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams.
    • Outstanding communication skills across multiple environments and audiences.
    • A strategic leader with strong critical thinking, creative problem solving, and analytical skills.
    • A proven track record of implementing growth strategies.
    • Experience managing budgets >$500,000.
