    Position: Makerspace Instructors

    Reports to: Makerspace Manager

    Location: 3407 NE 2nd St. Renton, Washington 98056

    Position type: Hourly; dependant on curriculum and workshop needs

    Salary: $25 per instructional hour

    SPIN is looking for several Makerspace Instructors to bring their unique maker skills and interests to our LAB makerspace. You don’t need to be an expert in every tool—we value instructors who are excited to share what they know, and who are open to learning alongside students and staff. Whether your strengths are in laser cutting, 3D printing, sewing, embroidery, coding, or another area of making, we want to hear from you.

    As a Makerspace Instructor, you’ll lead engaging, hands-on STEAM programming for students and community members using our diverse tools and technologies. The goal of this role is to empower students with 21st-century skills, encouraging them to explore, build, and innovate through guided learning and creative experimentation.

    In this position, you’ll work directly with the Makerspace Manager not only to deliver programming, but also to co-create and adapt curriculum that meets participant needs and aligns with SPIN’s mission and vision.

    This position reports to the SPIN Makerspace Manager.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Instruction & Mentorship (50%)

    • Lead hands-on workshops for students.
    • Provide clear demonstrations and ensure participant engagement.
    • Manage learning experiences by applying problem-solving skills and offering constructive feedback.
    • Collaborate and build community asynchronously with LAB members using Google Classroom.

    Preparation & Setup (20%)

    • Prepare materials, tools, and equipment prior to workshops.
    • Customize content based on the technology being taught and participant skill level.
    • Submit workshop proposals to the Makerspace Manager.

    Safety & Equipment Oversight (10%)

    • Ensure safe use of all tools and equipment during sessions.
    • Communicate and enforce makerspace safety protocols.
    • Report maintenance needs promptly to the Makerspace Manager.

    Participant Support & Guidance (10%)

    • Assist individuals with questions or challenges during workshops and on Google Classroom.
    • Foster a supportive, inclusive learning environment for all participants.

    Collaboration & Feedback (10%)

    • Work closely with the Makerspace Manager on program planning, curriculum development, and improvement.
    • Provide feedback on workshops, suggest new ideas, and help evaluate participant outcomes.
