    Human Trafficking Specialist

    Mission: The Worker Justice Center of New York pursues justice for those denied human rights, with a focus on agricultural and other low-wage workers, through legal representation, community empowerment and advocacy for institutional change.

    Opportunity: The organization is currently seeking to hire a full-time Human Trafficking Specialist to join our Anti-Human Trafficking Team.

    Job Title: Human Trafficking Specialist

    Supervisor: Director of Anti-Human Trafficking

    Working Hours: 35 hours per week (with flexible scheduling adjustable to case development)

    Location: This position is based in our Kingston, NY, office. Frequent travel within New York State is an expected component of this position.

    Compensation: Compensation and benefits are determined by a union-negotiated compensation scale, which begins at $44,000 per year (for someone with no experience) and increases based on the candidate’s qualifications, education, and professional experience up to $72,500+ annually. Unpaid internships or volunteer work experience may be considered in wage determination. This is a non-exempt position, paid on an hourly basis at an annualized rate. WJCNY offers a generous comprehensive benefit package, including an employer- paid family health option, dental insurance, generous paid sick and vacation time, 15 paid holidays, 12 weeks of fully paid family leave, group life insurance, and a 401(k)-retirement plan for employee contribution.

    Job Summary: The Human Trafficking Specialist will focus on coordinating all efforts of identifying human trafficking cases and connecting the victims to the appropriate services needed, whether internally or externally. In addition to identifying potential cases, the Human Trafficking Specialist will also train other service providers and law enforcement agencies on how to identify potential cases which can in turn be referred to our office for legal representation, immigration relief, and/or case management, or to other service providers.

    Furthermore, the Human Trafficking Specialist will engage in outreach to reach agricultural workers as well as workers in other industries identified as high risk for potential human trafficking presence. Through effective advocacy for these services as well as participation in multiple coalitions and task forces, the Human Trafficking Specialist will create strong community collaborations with specific

    service organizations in order to ensure a quality, community response to trafficking against migrant, seasonal, immigrant, and non-immigrant farmworkers, as well as other low wage workers who are victims of human trafficking.

    Job Requirements:

    • Conduct outreach to farm workers and other communities of low-wage workersand/or other at-risk populations with a focustoward identifying potential trafficking victims/survivors and humantrafficking schemes. These outreach visits may occurduring evening hours and occasionally on weekends.
    • Investigate tips concerning potential trafficking activity, in collaboration with law enforcement partners when appropriate.
    • Conduct trainings for governmental, human service and community agencies on identifying human trafficking victims/survivors and human trafficking schemes.
    • Provide case management services to human trafficking survivor clients.
    • Represent WJCNY in various human trafficking task forces to establish, coordinate and maintain partnerships with law enforcement agencies and social service providers.
    • Draft informational and educational materials on human trafficking and the identification of human trafficking and schemes.
    • Maintain regular, detailed reports as required; assist in grant reporting.
    • Collaborate with legal staff to assist in human trafficking case development (criminal and civil).
    • Maintain knowledge of current events and developments in the area of human trafficking.
    • Participate in organizational fundraising activities asneeded.
    • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    • Advanced written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish required
    • Direct experience with low-wage workers and/or immigrant communities (personal, lived experience included)
    • A demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights, immigrant rights, or other relevant social justice issues
    • Experience with group facilitation and public speaking
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to conduct human trafficking related research.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • A valid driver’s license
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google-based applications.
