    About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Oregon Communications and Engagement, the Oregon Communications Manager will craft compelling narratives, lead media and digital outreach, and collaborate with partners and coalitions to advance Climate Solutions’ clean energy and climate campaigns in Oregon.

Based in Portland, OR, the position is part of the regional Communications and Engagement team and involves extensive cross-team collaboration with the Oregon Director and Oregon policy staff, as well as with the development department in support of organizational fundraising.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications and Digital Organizing

    • Partner closely with the Director of Oregon Communications and Engagement, Oregon State Director, and policy staff to develop and execute high-impact communications campaigns that build support for clean energy progress in Oregon.
    • Support the Oregon Communication and Engagement Director in building and maintaining media relationships. Assist staff and partners with press interviews, conduct direct outreach, and make pitch calls to reporters and editors to secure press coverage.
    • Work with the communications and policy team alongside coalitions to write, edit and promote press releases, opinion pieces, pitch memos, blogs, social media posts, one-pagers, talking points, and other campaign materials on deadline.

    Partnerships and Coalition Engagement

    • Cultivate and nurture relationships with priority partners and constituencies, especially environmental justice and community-based organizations.
    • Coordinate with coalition partners to develop shared communications strategies and materials, including promotion for events such as coalition lobby days, recruitment to attend lawmaker town halls, social media toolkits, and press conferences.
    • Work with the Climate Solutions communications team to help develop content and messaging that amplifies diverse community and partner perspectives.

    Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Work closely with the Oregon Policy team to manage multiple campaign needs simultaneously.
    • Collaborate regularly with the Communications & Engagement team to help project-manage broader team needs.
    • Occasionally support the Development team members in promoting Climate Solutions events, fundraising initiatives, and storytelling.

    Organizational Participation

    • Participate in Climate Solutions’ staff meetings, trainings, racial equity conversations, and retreats. Lead or coordinate meetings when appropriate.
    • Incorporate Climate Solutions’ Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion commitments, Commitment to Leading our Work with a Racial Equity Lens, and Climate Solutions’ values into all aspects of work.

    Who you are:

    • You Believe in Climate Solutions’ Mission. You are passionate about accelerating clean energy solutions to the climate crisis and championing transformational policies and market-based innovations across Washington and Oregon. You are able to build more peoplepower for good.
    • You Are A Creative Campaigner. You design and implement strategic communications campaigns that capture attention, shift narratives, and build momentum. You know how to craft compelling messages and leverage a range of tools and tactics– from media pitches to grassroots engagement–to engage priority audiences and deliver progress.
    • You Are A Skilled Storyteller. You write with clarity and purpose, distilling policy complexity into engaging content across platforms—press releases, blogs, social posts, talking points—that resonate with diverse audiences.
    • You Cultivate Trust-Based Relationships. You build meaningful, collaborative connections with diverse stakeholders, reporters, and community-based organizations. You practice cultural humility, listen actively, and highlight the voices to help build the power of the clean energy and climate movements in Oregon.
    • You Center Equity and Inclusion. You actively work to redress power imbalances and integrate a racial equity lens into all aspects of your work, creating space for voices historically marginalized and ensuring they are heard, valued, and prioritized.
    • You Are Adaptive and Resilient. You stay focused amid shifting priorities and evolving campaign landscapes, helping guide strategic communication initiatives from ideation to completion with clarity, collaboration, and a long-term view.

Travel: This is a hybrid role, based in Portland, OR, with a combination of remote and in-person meetings (2-3x week) and external partner meetings, events, and trainings, as well as periodic travel within the region (approx. quarterly) for key campaign activities or organizational events.

Climate Solutions recognizes that institutional racism, including systems and behaviors that maintain white power and privilege, exists within our organization, the broader climate and environmental movement, and throughout society. We also recognize that the impacts of the climate crisis, pollution from fossil fuels, and the costs of proposed solutions fall disproportionately on communities of color, low-income, Tribal Nations, and frontline communities, both in our region and across the world. This is a barrier to a more equitable future and our ability to achieve our mission.

Climate Solutions has chosen to lead our work with a racial equity lens as a strategy to address all forms of oppression. Climate Solutions is committed to equal opportunity in employment and promotion for all qualified persons without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, military or veteran status, the presence of any sensory, mental or physical disability, pregnancy and childbirth, family responsibilities, or any other basis protected by applicable laws, regulations, or guidelines relating to discrimination in employment.

    Benefits

Benefits: Climate Solutions provides 100% employee premiums for medical, dental, and vision, 6 weeks of PTO and 14 flexible holidays, and access to an Employment Assistance Program (EAP), health care flexible spending and dependent care spending accounts, and voluntary life insurance.

In addition, Climate Solutions covers 100% of eligible employees' short- and long-term disability insurance, as well as life insurance.
