    Description

    Reporting directly to the President, the Director of Finance is responsible for managing the financial, human-resource operations of the school, oversees the physical plant, and carries out a wide range of administrative and executive tasks. Because the Director of Finance is a member of De Marillac’s Leadership Team, the role requires a close working relationship with the administration, faculty, staff and supporting vendors of De Marillac Academy.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Finance

    • Prepare annual operating, capital and cash-flow budgets, ensuring maximum participation of the leadership team.
    • Prepare accurate monthly financial and operational reports for multiple constituencies
    • Provide strategic oversight of organization finances
    • Coordinate the preparation for and execution of annual financial audit with external auditors
    • Carry out or oversee all accounting functions, including managing the Bookkeeper.
    • Provide leadership in developing financial components of school strategic and
    • business plans;

    Operations

    • Coordinate long-term management of human resources, benefits administration and general expenditures from a financial, operational, and cost-control perspective
    • Oversee operational areas including Facilities Management, Food Services, Technology, and Data Management, with the Assistant Director of Operations
    • Plan for capital expenditures and ensure accurate assessment of replacement costs for fixed assets, furniture, fixtures and equipment.

    Other Responsibilities

    • Provide back-up support needed; helping in classrooms, chaperoning field trips, prefecting lunch and recess breaks when coverage is needed. The Director of Finance is encouraged to participate in these activities to ensure a team spirit at De Marillac and such activities often inspire new ideas and projects for the Finance team;

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; Master’s Degree desirable;
    • At least seven years of progressively responsible experience;

    Technical Competencies

    • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with diverse constituencies, including, but not limited to: Board of Trustees, Finance Council members, benefactors, colleagues, volunteers and vendors;
    • Analytic and problem-solving skills;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, G-Suite, Salesforce and QuickBooks.

    De Marillac Academy exists to honor and celebrate the unique gifts and talents of our students, so that they find their voice, reach their potential and serve the community. Grounded in family partnerships, our all-scholarship fourth through eighth grade Catholic education serves the heart of the Tenderloin and beyond. Through the graduate support program, we continue to provide educational, personal and financial support to each of our students and families. De Marillac Academy opened in 2001 as an independent, Lasallian Vincentian Catholic school with a class of nineteen sixth graders. Today De Marillac serves 108 fourth through eighth grade students, 438 alumni through the Graduate Support Program.
