    Description

    Barrett Early Learning Center (BELC) is seeking a collaborative and proactive Early Learning Assistant Director to support the Executive Director in overseeing day-to-day operations, staff development, and program implementation. The Deputy Director will play a key role in ensuring the center runs smoothly, while maintaining a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment for children and their families. This position will serve as the second-in-command and work closely with the Executive Director to uphold the Center’s mission and strategic goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Operational Support:
    • Assist the Executive Director in overseeing daily operations to ensure compliance with state licensing and regulatory requirements. Step in to lead operations during the absence of the Executive Director.
    • Staff Development & Supervision:
    • Work alongside the Executive Director to recruit, hire, train, and develop staff. Provide mentorship and guidance to staff, ensuring a collaborative and supportive environment. Oversee the completion of performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to staff.
    • Program Oversight:
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive curricula and activities for children. Ensure that all programs meet the developmental needs of the children and align with the Center’s mission.
    • Enrollment & Communication:
    • Manage the enrollment process, including recruitment, waitlist management, and communication with prospective families. Maintain an open line of communication with parents, staff, and community partners.
    • Community Engagement & Advocacy:
    • Support the Center’s efforts in fostering strong community relationships and partnerships. Represent the Center at community events and advocate for funding, resources, and services for the children and families served.
    • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure that all health, safety, and licensing regulations are met. Assist with maintaining up-to-date records and documentation, including student files, incident reports, and staff records. Lead investigations of any incidents involving staff or children as necessary.
    • Financial & Administrative Assistance:
    • Assist the Executive Director in managing financial operations, including budgeting, billing, and payroll. Help ensure spending aligns with the budget and that financial records are maintained accurately.
    • Fundraising & Grant Writing Support:
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to support fundraising efforts, including grant writing and outreach to potential donors and community stakeholders.
    • Leadership & Strategic Planning:
    • Work with the Executive Director and Board to implement the strategic vision for the Center. Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned, contributing to the Center’s long-term sustainability and success.
    • Substitute for Executive Director:
    • Serve as Acting Executive Director in the event of the Executive Director’s absence, ensuring continuity of operations and decision-making.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Education Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
    • At least three years of experience in an early childhood education setting, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory or management role.
    • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, children, families, and community partners.
    • Experience in nonprofit management, including budgeting, fundraising, and grant writing.
    • Knowledge of state licensing requirements and early childhood education standards.
    • Commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to create an inclusive environment for all children and families.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic financial software.

    Work Schedule:

    The Deputy Director is expected to work on-site at Barrett Early Learning Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends for special events or meetings.
