    Description

    Abraham Joshua Heschel School seeks a learning support teacher for targeted academic support for individual and small groups of students. The position involves collaboration with learning specialists and classroom teachers to provide an added layer of academic support (reading, writing, math) with a focus on individualizing instruction for specific student needs.

    The ideal candidate should have the following:

    • Master’s degree in special education, learning disabilities, or related field preferred
    • Training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, PAF, or similar programs
    • Experience teaching with The Writing Revolution
    • Experience administering a variety of assessments to track and support student growth, including Fountas & Pinnell
    • A strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences as well as a deep knowledge base regarding ADHD

    Responsibilities include:

    • Teach students individually or in small groups to target specific reading, writing, and math skills in pull out and push in settings
    • Collaborate with other learning specialists and classroom teachers to keep instruction consistent with grade-wide content
    • Provide enrichment opportunities in reading, writing, or math for individual or small groups of students
    • Support students with executive functioning skills to support their regular academic program
    • Assess student progress in the targeted skill areas on an ongoing basis
    • Provide written and verbal updates on student progress as requested
