    Description

    About Beyond 12

Beyond 12 is a technology-enabled service nonprofit whose mission is to increase the number of historically underrepresented students who graduate from our nation’s colleges and universities. Through a digital coaching platform that combines coaches who work with students virtually while they are in college, a campus-customized mobile app, and a back-end predictive analytics engine, we help high schools and colleges provide their students with the academic, social, and emotional support they need to succeed in higher education. By collecting and sharing longitudinal data that crosses the K-12 and higher education systems, Beyond 12 not only provides students with differentiated coaching that ensures they earn a college degree, but we also provide actionable feedback to high schools about their college preparatory efforts, inform the retention work of colleges and universities, and influence the national conversation about student success.

Working for Beyond 12 is both an exciting and rewarding experience. Our culture is open and transparent. Our goals are ambitious and shared. Our team is talented, entrepreneurial, results-oriented, diverse, thoughtful, and fun (yes, fun!).

    About the Position

As the Student Communications Campaign Lead, you will support the creation, adaptation, and delivery of student-facing messages across our coaching programs that drive engagement, retention, and persistence in college. You will leverage Beyond 12’s AI tools and repository of content and academic calendars to source, write, and customize proactive outreach and in-app messages for students across several products and for multiple audience segments. You will also target and segment messaging, schedule and QA campaigns, and manage deployment on our campaign management platform. In doing so, you will help ensure our content is timely, accessible, and aligned with the real needs and voices of first-generation college students. You are a strong writer with a communications background who is excited to use words and technology to help students thrive. You are comfortable with technology and eager to learn new AI tools, and are familiar with campaign management systems.

Deliverables (include, but are not limited to)

    • Campaign Implementation and management: Use Beyond 12’s campaign management system messaging platform to set up campaigns and audiences, target and segment messaging, and QA campaigns before deployment. Contribute to the improvement of campaign management systems and processes.
    • Content Writing & Editing: Write, revise, and adapt proactive outreach messages based on existing content and templates. Personalize messages for specific student audiences, platforms, and moments (e.g., deadlines, milestones, challenges). Work closely with the rest of the Student Communications team to ensure content accuracy, consistency, and relevance. Contribute to our internal documentation of content best practices, reusable assets, and tone guidelines. Help elevate student voice in content through inclusive and affirming language.
    • AI and Digital Tools: Use GenAI and copyediting tools to streamline drafts and improve quality. Apply organizational style, voice, and tone to licensed content. Participate in feedback cycles that may include A/B testing, qualitative feedback from students, and technical platform reviews.

    Required Experience

    • Writing experience, with strong proofreading and editing skills, especially in short-form and student-centered formats. Ideally, with experience writing for text-based communication (SMS, app, chat, etc.).
    • Deep understanding of, or personal proximity to, the 2-year and/or 4-year college experience—particularly for first-generation, low-income, or historically underrepresented students.
    • Experience with Campaign Management Systems, preferably Mainstay.
    • Comfort with iteration, rapid feedback, and collaborative writing processes.
    • Familiarity with GenAI tools and a willingness to learn more. You are excited about using AI and digital tools to enhance the quality and efficiency of your writing.
    • Experience managing multiple projects, prioritizing effectively, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
