    About Masa:

Masa partners with Mexican and Latin American children, youth, and families in the South Bronx to develop strong learners and leaders who fully contribute to the larger community. We envision a community that is civically engaged, empowered, and educated.

Masa’s community-led, integrated model engages the entire family, grounded in a deep commitment to strengthening literacy, leadership, and power for Mexican, Central American, and Indigenous People. Masa fosters a culturally responsive learning community in which families engage with direct service and advocacy programs to dismantle barriers to success.

    About this role:

Masa is seeking a qualified and driven Deputy Director to join our team as a key partner to the Executive Director and senior leader of the organization. The Deputy Director works closely with the Executive Director and other stakeholders to advance the organization’s overall operational effectiveness; support implementation of Masa’s 5-year strategic plan; and ensure compliance with internal policies, government contract requirements, and applicable federal, state, and city laws. The Deputy Director will represent Masa and engage regularly with external audiences to increase awareness, generate support, and raise the visibility of Masa’s work and our community in the South Bronx. This position supervises 3-4 direct reports.

This is a highly collaborative, multifaceted, and hands-on role ideal for a candidate who communicates fluently and writes proficiently in Spanish and English, shares Masa’s commitment to advancing social and racial justice through a community-led model, and has a strong track record driving operations and initiatives to achieve social impact.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Organizational leadership and strategic execution

    • Partner with the ED on internal decision-making, priority-setting, and organizational management
    • Lead the execution of strategic initiatives and workplace protocols across teams, ensuring coordination, accountability, and progress tracking
    • Build and refine systems and workflows to support operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability
    • Foster a culture rooted in the values of social justice, human rights, and community partnership

Operational, Administrative and Human Resources Management

    • Oversee day-to-day administrative functions, including HR, compliance, and vendor/contractor management.
    • Ensure organizational and programmatic compliance with applicable laws and government contract requirements
    • Maintain and update HR-related policies, including the employee handbook and new Federal and State policies as they evolve
    • Provide oversight and support on key HR processes, including hiring, onboarding, benefits administration, and payroll
    • Identify and implement operational improvements in the areas of technology, data management, and administrative systems, including SalesForce
    • Supervise a Human Resources Associate, Operations Manager, and PT maintenance staff member, providing coaching and promoting accountability
    • Organize internal meetings, retreats, and ongoing team-building and professional development activities

External engagement, programmatic support, and other activities

    • Work closely with ED and program teams to ensure program alignment with organizational mission and goals, as well as internal policies and protocols
    • Represent Masa in a range of contexts, including with funders, partners, local government officials, at conferences, and at community events
    • Lead the planning and execution of events hosted by Masa (e.g. annual Día del Niño event, Back-to-School event, and others)
    • Spearhead special projects from beginning to end
    • Provide general support to the ED and carry out other duties as assigned and as needed

    Requirements:

    • Fully bilingual in Spanish and English, both oral and in written form
    • 3+ years of non-profit management experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
    • 2+ years of experience working in partnership with Latino immigrant communities; passionate about drawing on families’ strengths and traditions to build strong partnerships with community members
    • The ability to think broadly and strategically, and be detail-oriented about the process necessary to translate vision into executable strategies and systems
    • Solid organizational and project management skills to promote productivity and efficiency
    • Program development experience; familiar with culturally responsive and social justice approaches
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including funders, government officials, colleagues, and community members
    • Proven leadership and team-building skills
    • Highly organized and self-managing; able to work independently
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • Tech-savvy; excellent Excel and Word skills in particular

    Bonus skills:

    • Experience with program evaluation methods and data analysis
    • Experience with database management, particularly with SalesForce
    • NYC government contracting experience, specifically with DYCD

    Physical demands:

    • Moderate carrying of program materials
    • Position is in-person at Masa’s office in the South Bronx
