    Job Title: Mobile Medical Services Coordinator

    Status: Full-Time/Exempt/40 hours per week requiring flexibility/grant-funded

    Compensation: $55,000 - $60,000 annual salary plus generous paid time off and benefits package

    Organization Description:

    Prevention Point Pittsburgh (PPP) is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the health and safety of individuals who use drugs through the provision of public health services. By both practicing and advocating for harm reduction approaches to substance use, PPP aims to empower individuals and communities to respond to substance use with compassion and understanding.

    People with personal or family experience with substance use, criminal (in)justice involvement, homelessness, and/or sex work; people of color, women, and members of the LGBTQIA+ communities; and people living with HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C are strongly encouraged to inquire about this opportunity.     Position Summary:

    The Mobile Medical Services Coordinator will provide oversight and coordination for PPP’s van-based mobile medical unit, including fulfilling reporting and other grant requirements, and managing PPP’s relationships with partners, funders, and other provider agencies.

    Primary responsibilities include assisting with the logistical operations of the medical van and supporting the medical providers as appropriate. The mobile medical services project started in 2020 offering wound care, buprenorphine prescribing, antibiotic dispensing, and over the counter medications at PPP’s existing harm reduction service locations. In 2022 the program was expanded to add low-barrier mental health services and connections to ongoing behavioral health care. Mobile services are offered outdoors at four locations throughout the week, and this position requires the applicant to work outside throughout the year. This role is fully funded by the CDC.

    Travel Requirements: This is an in-office and on site position. After 1 year of employment, the position will be reviewed to identify possible opportunities for remote work.

    Responsibilities:

    • Supervise medical social work and patient support staff, currently a team of two.
    • Ensure program is operating in adherence with all legal and grant requirements.
    • Participate in regular meetings with AHN staff and providers regarding grant requirements and overall program management.
    • Manage program data, including Protected Health Information with all appropriate protections.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and reviews for mobile medical services team.
    • Provide support for the operation of services, including driving the van, staffing sites, cleaning medical van including rotation of cleaning port-a-potty as needed.
      • The medical services van operates outdoors year-round, four days per week.
    • Support and participate in regular discussions with contracted medical providers regarding the provision and coordination of care for current, future, and past patients.
    • Develop and update operational policies pertaining to medical van operations as programmatic needs change.
    • Grow PPP’s partnerships with individuals in other organizations in order to build relationships to refer participants to other levels of care.
    • Represent the agency in task forces, advocacy groups, and advisory bodies as appropriate.
    • To be genuine, engaging, and trustworthy when interacting with program participants.
    • To exemplify professionalism when working with partner agencies and authorities.
    • To be accountable and responsive to program participants, partners, coworkers, and agencies.
    • To function as a team-member, share in other responsibilities as required, including but not limited to: attending events, obtaining training, undertaking research, and other duties as assigned.
    • To maintain necessary licensing and training, and to adhere to ethics of social work, if applicable.
    • Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings.

    Requirements and Qualifications:

    • Commitment to harm reduction philosophy and organizational mission.
    • Demonstrate understanding of basic case management practices, including making connections and referrals, maintaining necessary records, managing time and establishing and maintaining boundaries appropriate for a harm reduction setting.
    • Minimum one-year experience supervising/managing other employees in a social work or similar setting
    • Familiarity working in Electronic Health Records or other care management platforms
    • Ability to ask for support from team and other team leads when needed.
    • Understanding of safer injection practices, overdose prevention, testing procedures, disease transmission, and general substance use topics.
    • Familiarity with service systems in the region.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; accuracy in documentation and data entry.
    • Excellent interpersonal and team building, leadership, and oral and written communication skills.
    • Willingness to work independently and creatively solve problems as they arise.
    • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and in compliance with applicable laws.
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, attend required engagements, receive feedback, and meet deadlines.
    • Lifting 25 pounds, driving, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs are frequently necessary.
    • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, email, and other core applications.
    • Must have a valid and unrestricted PA driver’s license for duration of employment and be insurable under agency’s policy (disqualifications generally include DUI/DWI or other reckless driving convictions in the last five years or more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years). Owning a vehicle is not required, however applicants must have reliable transportation to PPP and AHN offices, service locations, and other sites in the community.
    • Must complete all required trainings and certifications.
    • Experience in previous harm reduction or mental health settings is preferred but not required.
