    OPERATIONS SPECIALIST

    About SEIU Wisconsin:

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Operations Specialist is a key team member responsible for supporting SEIU Wisconsin’s mission of building power for working people by ensuring the efficient operation of union systems, offices, and programs. Under the supervision of the Director of Operations and Staffing, the Operations Specialist works across departments to provide operational, logistical, and clerical support. This role also plays a critical part in member support and ensuring the operational success of union programs, such as events, union leave programs, and compliance processes.

    The Operations Specialist works collaboratively with other managers, including the Political Director, to ensure alignment of operational efforts with union-wide goals and values.

    LOCATION:

    Madison or Milwaukee, WI. With occasional travel to other offices (Racine, Milwaukee, Madison, La Crosse) and events.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Member Support

      1. Serve as the first point of contact for members reaching out via phone, email, or in person across SEIU Wisconsin offices.
      2. Provide timely responses to member inquiries, ensuring a warm hand-off to appropriate staff and maintaining effective follow-up.

    Office Management

      1. Manage office operations across all SEIU Wisconsin offices, including maintaining supplies, utilities, and overall office systems.
      2. Support general office management needs to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and member satisfaction.
      3. Coordinate with the Racine office building committee and member leaders to support effective property management of the Racine office.

    Support for Union Programs

      1. Provide operational support for union leave programs, including onboarding and return-to-work processes for members.
      2. Ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance, and recordkeeping for union leave programs, such as the Member Political Organizer Program, Member Contract Brigade, and Member Organizers Program.
      3. Assist with the logistics and planning of union events, including ordering supplies, coordinating travel, and designing events that prioritize a positive member experience.
      4. Maintain and develop scalable operations systems for payroll, leave/vacation tracking, expense reporting, and other processes to support union growth.

    Cross-Team Collaboration and Support

      1. Collaborate with organizing, political, and other teams to provide seamless operational support for campaigns, events, and programs.
      2. Work with the Political Director and other managers to support the SEIU Wisconsin State Council’s operational needs, including compliance and logistical support for the union’s political programs.
      3. Provide logistical and operational support for member-driven campaigns and activities.

    Member Leader Development

      1. Build relationships with member leaders on the executive board and those participating in union leave programs to support their development and operational needs.
      2. Collaborate with member leaders on the Racine office building committee to ensure the effective management of the Racine office property.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required Qualifications

      1. Strong dedication to labor and social justice movements.
      2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      3. Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
      4. Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
      5. Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and database systems.
      6. Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

      1. Experience with database systems (e.g., EMMA) and member support workflows.
      2. Familiarity with payroll, compliance, and accounting processes.
      3. Knowledge of scalable operations systems such as expense tracking and leave management.
      4. Event planning and logistics experience, with a focus on enhancing member experience.
      5. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

    Work Conditions

    • Schedule: Full-time, with occasional evening or weekend hours based on organizational needs.
    • Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage.

    Salary and Benefits

    • Starting salary: $53,068.18/year to $63,910.01/year based on experience.
    • Benefits include employer paid premiums for health, dental, vision and life insurance, employer contribution to an excellent defined benefit pension plan, generous paid time off, paid holidays and paid sick time as defined by the staff collective bargaining agreement.
