    Description

    National Cathedral School seeks an Upper School Learning Specialist for its Teaching and Learning Center who believes in the power of young women and is dedicated to nurturing their curiosity and potential. This full-time position will support US students to become successful learners and self-advocates, helping students make full use of school-based resources. In addition, the Learning Specialist assists in providing student learning and faculty professional development opportunities to increase student and teacher effectiveness in the classroom.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • Classroom teaching experience and working with students of varying levels of ability,
    • In-depth knowledge about current research relevant to students in grades 4-12, for example, neurodiversity, brain-based learning and cognitive development,
    • A master’s degree in psychology, education, or special education,
    • Experience in analyzing psycho-educational testing,
    • Background in completing ACT and SAT accommodations applications,
    • Expertise in supporting and developing executive function skills.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Reviewing/maintaining student records/files,
    • Analyzing psycho-educational reports and providing recommendations based on these reports,
    • Ensuring appropriate learning accommodations are in place for students in grades 9-12,
    • Completing applications for ACT and SAT accommodations,
    • Leading the Upper School Peer Mentor program,
    • Collaborating with upper school deans, counselor, chaplain, and division head to offer student-centered support,
    • Consulting with faculty, administrators, and parents,
    • Supporting students in developing critical thinking skills, effective executive function skills and study strategies.

    Teachers are on campus from 7:45am to approximately 4:00 pm. Additional responsibilities include participating in department, division and faculty meetings, holding regular office hours, as well as attending chapel, cathedral services, and assemblies.

    The exact salary is determined based on education and teaching experience using a step scale.
