    Description

The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, nonprofit organization that serves women, girls, and other immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence. Our interdisciplinary, trauma-informed model of service combines free legal and social services with bridge-building policy advocacy and research-based training and education. Our programs efficiently and effectively leverage donated professional services from a vast network of attorneys, medical professionals, and other experts to serve as many immigrant survivors as possible. By amplifying the experiences of survivors in communities, courts, and Congress, Tahirih’s mission is to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, this position is responsible for maintaining a foundation and government grants portfolio in partnership with program teams, finance team, and development staff across the country to accomplish Tahirih’s annual fundraising goals.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Grant Proposal and Report Management

    • Write grant proposals and reports for foundation, corporate, and government funders who support our work in local markets as well as nationally.
    • Manage proposal and report deliverables ensuring they are tailored, complete, on time and high-quality, inclusive of colleague input, in accordance with funder guidelines and requirements, and in alignment with Tahirih’s organizational values.
    • Prospect for new foundation and government funding sources and lead go/no-go discussions with Grants Team and other team leads.
    • Gather, coordinate, edit, create, and perform quality control of files that supplement proposal and reporting narratives (including budgets, in coordination with finance team and per required templates).

    Institutional Funder Relationship Management

    • Foster strategic, effective management of relationships between Tahirih and its institutional funders by supporting team leads, coordinating with development staff, or holding and stewarding those relationships directly.
    • Collaborate with team leads and relationship holders to develop materials to support outreach, meetings, site visits, and other interactions with grant funders, as needed.

    Grant Administration

    • Ensure successful submission of assigned foundation and government proposals, reports, and other deliverables.
    • Maintain accurate records in Tahirih’s CRM related to prospective, current, and lapsed grant funders, including assigned deliverables, contacts, and relationships.
    • Continually update library of common grant attachments, finance materials, and organizational metrics.
    • Convene timely grant kick off meetings after awards are granted to equip staff to manage program, metric/programmatic, and financial reporting deliverables.
    • Track commonly used language and populate files on a regular basis to allow for consistent narratives and branding in externally facing documents across the organization.

    Organizational and Movement Capacity Building

    • In partnership with the Director of Institutional Giving and Grants Team peers, deliver technical assistance to Tahirih program staff on grants best practices and compliance, internal grants processes, and grant-implicated procedures (such as allowable activities, eligible harm types, etc.)
    • Initiate and/or engage nonprofit partners, including subgrantee staff and administrators/fundraisers at peer organizations, in information sharing, assessing joint proposal opportunities, offering peer support/technical assistance, proactively drafting letters of support, making funder introductions, and sharing resources.
    • Provide strategic input on annual planning, including goal setting for the Grants Team and the overall development department, as well as support for organizational budgeting processes as they relate to foundation and government grants.

This Job Description is not designed to cover a comprehensive listing of activities that are required of the employee. The precise duties and responsibilities of the job may change over time.

    Requirements

    • At least 5 years of experience effectively prospecting for grants, stewarding grant officer relationships, and writing and submitting grant proposals and reports

    • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks and projects
