    DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, DELAWARE COUNTY YOUTH ORCHESTRAS

    DCYOs seeks an energetic and self-motivated Director of Operations (DO). Reporting to the Executive Artistic Director and the Board, the DO is responsible for the overall management of the operations and logistics of the organization. This part time role averages 10-15 hours per week, with the bulk of activities during September to May and reduced hours in June to August. Most tasks can be completed remotely with flexible scheduling. Compensation is $20-23 per hour, commensurate with experience.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    The DO is expected to manage the operational aspects of the organization and the logistics of weekly rehearsals, concerts, auditions, retreats, and other events for three ensembles.

    Operational Functions:

    • Oversee the registration of students using DCYOs CRM system
    • Manage monthly bookkeeping, including bill payments and revenue deposits and reconciliations using QuickBooks
    • Manage contracts and agreements, including insurance, ASCAP/BMI renewals, and rehearsal and concert venues
    • Coordinate production of concert programs, flyers, advertisement, etc.
    • Coordinate internal and external communications (e.g. emails, e-blasts)
    • Manage grant submissions in coordination with the Board committee.
    • Manage social media accounts and postings

    Logistical Functions:

    • Attend and oversee weekly rehearsals, including set-up and breakdown, student attendance, parent interactions, and conductor needs for DCYO, YMO and YMB. DCYO rehearses at the Ardmore Presbyterian Church, in Ardmore, on Tuesdays from 7:00-9:15 pm, with set-up beginning at 6:15 pm; YMO rehearses at the Strath Haven High School, Wallingford, and YMB rehearses at the Strath Haven Middle School, Wallingford. Both YMO/YMB rehearses on Thursdays from 6:45-8:15 pm, with set-up beginning at 6:00 pm;
    • Attend and oversee all concerts, including venue interactions, set-up and breakdown, instrument transport, audio recordings, parent interactions, and audience experience. DCYO has three concerts per year and YMO/YMB has two joint concerts per year
    • Attend and oversee all auditions, including venue interactions, set-up and breakdown, on-line registrations, and communications. DCYO, YMO, and YMB hold joint auditions in May and supplemental auditions as needed.
    • Attend and oversee other orchestra events as needed (Performance Hour, Retreats, Bring-A-Friend, etc.)
    • Manage and oversee parent volunteer activities

    Background/Qualifications:

    • College degree
    • Background in and knowledge of orchestral classical music preferred
    • Excellent and proactive communication skills, in person and over emails
    • Experience working with Middle School and High School students, and their parents
    • Self-motivated and result oriented with limited supervision
    • Willing and able to meet the physical demands of the job (lift and move equipment)
    • Willing and able to work flexible schedule as needed
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn digital tools, including Microsoft/Google suites, QuickBooks, and Neon CRM
    • Must pass a background check as a condition of employment

    Delaware County Youth Orchestra (DCYO) is a mission driven organization that provides young people of outstanding musical ability with an opportunity to learn and perform major works from the standard symphonic repertoire, and to develop the skill and discipline of orchestral performances. DCYO strives to enrich the lives of developing musicians, our community, and our region.

    Consisting of three ensembles, DCYO, YMO (Young Musicians’ Orchestra), and YMB (Young Musicians’ Band) serve almost 200 students per year from the tri-state area, who are accepted on a competitive audition-based invitation. The ensembles are led by highly accomplished Music Directors, who set all musical decisions that further the mission.
