92NY’s School Engagement in the Arts seeks dynamic, experienced Dance Teaching Artists for its 2025–2026 Discover Dance program. Teaching Artists will lead 18 in-school dance lessons per class at partnering NYC elementary schools (Grades 2, 3, and 6), guiding students through an active exploration of various movement styles. We are seeking educators with expertise in Hip-Hop, Breakdance, House, and Tap dance. The program includes two culminating performances at 92NY featuring renowned guest artists.

    Schedule:

    • Lessons take place during school hours (8:00 AM–2:30 PM), October 2025–May 2026
    • Curriculum training with 92NY staff in September–October 2025 and January 2026
    • Schools are located in Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Manhattan

    Responsibilities:

    • Deliver 18 engaging, student-centered lessons per participating class (typically four to five 45-minute classes per visit)
    • Create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring classroom environment that encourages student participation and joy in movement
    • Communicate proactively with 92NY staff and classroom teachers to ensure smooth program delivery and share classroom successes and challenges
    • Arrive on time and prepared for each school visit
    • Document each class with photos and student testimonials, in alignment with program guidelines
    • Represent 92NY and the School Engagement department with professionalism and enthusiasm
    • Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions
    • Maintain open communication with program staff, requesting support when needed and contributing to a collaborative teaching community

    Qualifications:

    • 3–5 years of experience teaching dance in public school classroom settings (Grades 2, 3, and 6 preferred)
    • Demonstrated ability to re-engage students through movement and creativity, rather than classroom management alone
    • Passion for inclusive, student-centered teaching
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Experience with diverse dance styles and culturally responsive pedagogy
    • Interest in working with a pre-developed 18-session curriculum
    • Availability during designated school hours
    • Current fingerprint clearance through the NYC and NY State Department of Education is required for employment
