Serving approximately 14,000 New Yorkers annually, we address barriers to educational achievement, economic security, and career stability through three key program areas:

    • Education and School-Day Programs: Offering pre-kindergarten services, community schools, after-school programs, and college access counseling.
    • Sector-Focused Training and Employment Placement Pathways: Providing specialized training, employment placement pathways, Summer Youth Employment, Work Learning Grow initiatives, and aiding residents in accessing new employment opportunities.
    • Community & Economic Empowerment Services: Enabling community progress through community centers, resident services, food access, financial literacy programs, and support accessing benefits and wellness services.

    Salary range for this role will be $60,00.00 to $62,000.00, based on education, training, and experience.

    Position Summary:

    Phipps Neighborhoods in collaboration with the New York City Housing Authority and the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development operates a Cornerstone Community Center offering after school, young adult and senior programming along with special events and activities in partnerships with local agencies and nonprofit organization at no cost to participants. The Cornerstone model brings together a strong and active set of partners to address the needs of students, seniors, residents and community members and employs a governance structure that relies on strong collaboration, partnerships and access to resources and opportunities under the guidance and partnership of community advisory boards. In order to maximize our ability to provide communities with the resources needed to increase opportunities, strengthen neighborhoods and transcend poverty, Phipps Neighborhoods programs work through a community impact model. Cornerstone Community Centers are an important component of that model. The Assistant Director is a critical change agent who will work with school and youth development programs to leverage Phipps Neighborhoods as well other local services, agencies, programs and resources in order to ensure student and young adult success and positive social, educational and health outcomes for seniors and community members. Cornerstone staff members work in a team structure, where they collaborate every day to meet the needs of students, young adults, seniors and community members. Team members work together to create a safe and engaging environment that ensures programming for our students while focusing on academic and enrichment activities that support social emotional learning daily within programming.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Communicate with student frequently and effectively, connecting student to a range of services and programs inside and outside the school that address their physical, emotional, cognitive and social development
    • With the support of the Program Director, monitor all aspects of the DYCD Cornerstone programming and initiatives
    • Model positive youth development practices and social emotional learning competencies
    • Coordinate staff meetings with Program Director and assist with dissemination of organizational policies, procedures and protocols
    • Observe and evaluate staff performance and provide and / or facilitate ongoing relevant professional development for staff with the support of the Program Director
    • Participate in the data collection, management and analysis on student outcomes, and use data regularly for continuous improvement of the program model
    • Engage families and caregivers in supporting the education of their children and the ways in which academic outcomes are enhanced by serving the social-emotional and personal development needs of the child
    • Work closely with the Program Director to direct staff to establish a common language, workplace culture and program vision that speaks to our purpose in the community and the impact we aim to make
    • Assist with funder and/or agency reporting as outlined by Director
    • Serves as community outreach personnel connecting stakeholders to the Center
    • Serves as Center liaison to stakeholders, when needed, in absence of Director
    • Co-create a strong sense of community which values respect, acceptance, and high expectations
    • Manage all data entry across programs and contracted data systems including participant enrollment and attendance, and ensure that all program goals and outcome targets are achieved
    • Ensure all records including staff files, participant files, and program certifications are up to date and in accordance with organizational and funding source requirements
    • Maintain office efficiency by planning and implementing office systems, layout and equipment procurement, maintain and replenish inventory, checking stock to determine inventory levels, and anticipate needed supplies
    • Ensure all related facilities and materials are well maintained and liaise with the appropriate agency staff around facility maintenance, when necessary
    • Evening and weekend work related to program needs, special events and meetings may be required
    • Perform any and all task deemed necessary by the Program Director

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • 2+ years of administrative/supervisory experience
    • 2+ years of relevant experience, including at least one year experience working in an urban school environment in a youth development role; experience working with elementary and/or middle school students a plus.
    • Must have knowledge and experience of DOHMH and DYCD regulations
    • Evidence of culturally competent practices and familiarity with NYC non-profits and social services
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff, student body and families, as well as a team of professionals at the school and across the organization
    • Bilingual Spanish and English preferred

    Physical Demands:

    The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10lbs and occasionally lift up to 25lbs lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as outreach tables, chairs and boxes of outreach materials. Employee will occasionally be required to attend outdoor events.
