    Description

    POSITION: Legal Assistant position for Legal Services of Central New York (LSCNY). The position will be located in our Syracuse office.

    Background: LSCNY provides civil, not criminal, legal assistance to low-income residents of 13 counties in Central New York. The Legal Helpline is LSCNY’s point-of-entry for prospective clients.

    Responsibilities: The Helpline Legal Assistant interviews and screens prospective clients who call for legal assistance. The Helpline Legal Assistant will handle a high volume of telephone calls each day. The Helpline Legal Assistant enters prospective client information in an electronic case management system. The Helpline Legal Assistant also completes intake for applicants who walk into the office.

    Qualifications: Paralegal training or experience is desirable. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment and sensitivity to the needs of low-income persons and people in crisis. Applicants must have excellent communication skills.

    Four-Day Work Week. In a bold and innovative move, LSCNY staff works a 32-hour, four-day week. While maintaining high quality legal services to clients and the passion for our mission, the cutting-edge environment will positively affect staff work-life balance, retention, and recruiting.

    Salary/Benefits: Salary is established in a collective bargaining agreement; $46,250 to $67,378 DOE. LSCNY has an excellent benefits package and a generous leave policy.
